Not sure there is a "real need" for 2.5" unless you are planning to install the Stage 2 Turbo Upgrade where it is required. [:I]
then there is no need to change the stock muffler at all, since it's already a highflow muffler. your spending money on making noise, heck i got a BOV for sale if you want that tooo...
You should get someone else to drive your GT and follow next to it on the open highway. I swear, that stock muffler sounds like a wind tunnel. You can hear all the air just sloshing around. I was disgusted. I cant wait to run resonators only. My PT was NO top end. I burn people from the line but the car just gives up in high 3rd (Autostick) gear.

Im serious. Defintely have someone drive your car and listen to it.
Hell, I have plenty of pull at the top end with my setup, if you get a chance try the larger 2.5" pipe from the Cat back to your muffler. IMHO, it's a cheap upgrade, well worth the $85.00 that I spent.

Where would I find this $85 upgrade? How easy is it to switch out?

I respectfully disagree. The stock muffler is VERY BIG, weighs a "ton", and is filled with baffles that restrict air-flow. I don't consider this to be "highflow" or "high-performance" muffler [:0] in any way [|)] and removed mine soon after getting the car. Just my two cents. [?]

Gary,
Besides all you said, it goes into one side in the rear and comes out the other, by running all those baffels. The BTG is so little and light compared to stock. Just look at the original fire shield and remember ours used to fill that hole.

The muffler shop just cut off the ends of my 2.25" pipe and welded them on to the 2.5" pipe. The name of the place is Sam's Muffler Shop down in Otay Mesa Calif, or South San Diego to most folks.

Gary

One of PT Turbine's friends is running in the 13's with the stock exhaust system. Comparatively speaking the stock muffler ain't that heavy. To me it seemed lighter than the BTG that I took off, maybe it's my senility coming into play, or I forgot to forget. Anyway, I still have my BTG and I will check them out to see which one is the lightest. I just looked at the BTG muffler, it is smaller and is pretty light. Rather than take off the stock muffler to check, I'll just agree with you. But for me the muffler was not worth the noise that it made. It flat got on my nerves.
