Boy have we really got off topic.
DCX

And yes this horse is definately dead, But, this is good spirted debate something that this country needs more of!

More important, Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I really do agree with your position, but since they aren't changing then I will have to do what I can to midigate the risk, and that is to make sure that my car will pass the smog NAZI's tests. Actually this horse ain't dead. We could get a petition going and write in to DCX to express our displeasure in their position. We could also post stickers on our cars stating that we will never buy another DCX car if they keep this policy up. BTW, that new Charger looks really hot and I'm due for a new toy in 06. I'm all for debate, but if nothing is going to be done then why keep talking about it? Talk is cheap. If we are going to continue to beat this damn horse, what are we going to do when he gets up?? We either need to sh** or get off the pot. So if someone wants to start a write-in/email-in count me in, other wise...

I talked to the service manger at XXXX dealership and he confirmed that he has Stage1 with a boost control on his GT. I asked him would he installed the Stage(*) mod up to and including Stage3 and he said no problem. He even knew what they were and said that Stage 1&2 were easy to install. So I'm going to go see him and his car to confirm all of this. If this works out then I'll have two places to take my car to be serviced.

Happy Holidays

FWIW, because I neglected to get my annual PA state inspection before it expired 11/30, my 03 GT w/ Stage I PCM had to go through the new OBDII emissions test. It passed no problem (as, surprisingly, did my 97 Caravan (OBDI)). Why I didn't swap out to the stock PCM for the inspection, I don't know...
Probably good that you did not...Putting in the stock PCM would have likely made it run rich and create more pollution.

Someone added a BOV and was told that it was the cause of his turbo failing. Taking that dealer's ideology a bit further, your suspension and lighting mods will void your warranty also.

[:I]

macster
Hmmm. If my service monkey told me that, I would first fend off the need to just go ahead and smack him. Then I would have to ask, "You did not even know how to install a BOV kit and now, suddenly, you are an engineer?"

After I made an appointment to have the PCM swapped out (TSB) and the lash adjusters replaced, I called back to see if they could throw on the Mopar BOV too.
"A what?"
(further explanation)
"Oh! Lemme call ya back."
He called back and told me that noone there has ever done that and he asked me how to install it. [)]

Mmmmmmkay...bubba doofus over there is not touching my car.

This "sticky lifter" problem has me a little concerned. Unleashing the dealer-monkeys on it scares the hell out of me. [}]

I guess I should be thankful that their ineptitude was readily apparant over the phone rather than having seen it after any damage was done. Everyone has nothing but bad things to say about the two dealers here--yes, both "5-star", which must mean the stars they get on their foreheads when they "dun good". (heh, that was my BOV venting there)

So, given this, I think I have formulated a system that will work for me. I, King of Verbosity, have changed my mind. (Are you listening ladies? See, it does happen, men can change their mind. )

Given the useless and dangerous technicians and since anything beyond washing your car and changing the oil will effectively void your warranty, the warranty, therefore, is worth as much to me as Worldcom stock is. Oh, and they do not loan customers cars while warranty work is being accomplished.

I have the same service and diagnostic manuals as they, I appear to have no less experience as they, have access to the cool and knowledgable people on these PT forums, I can buy the tools, and have access to a full auto shop with tools, hydraulic lifts, and certified mechanics who can assist. My aptitude in mechanics is as strong as it is in electronics (I am an Electronics Engineer gone Computer/Network/Communications Engineer), have a 140 IQ, am terribly meticulous, and have a curiosity that rivals cats. I cannot see how I can do any worse. And if I do, you guys can bail me out.

So...the system..."Here's the TSB, gimmie my parts." heh. [8] I am open to suggestions on implementing this master plan.

Lash adjusters: $10 ea. Peace of mind: Priceless.

Since the warranty went from being of primary importance to me to "what warranty?", when is Stage 2 supposed to come out?

I wonder if I can find a DRBIII on eBay...lol

psshhhhhhhhhh...

Your comments are what "risk acceptance" is all about. There are times that we accept risk and to what we can to mitigate it. But your equation omitted one very important thing, which was "cost." Costs are very important in making a "risk" acceptance decision. (e.g. the one that we are talking about here) If you are willing to accept the costs, then go for it. But I would look for the best service department that is available, establish a good relationship with them and go from there. My main goal is to have DCX bear all the cost of the warranty work on my car, since that was part of the purchase agreement. With the dealer that I go to, the service dept is pretty good and they fix what ever it is that the problems are. But also if I did something that caused the problem, then I own up to it when I take the car in. Uhhh, FWIW, I wouldn't do it.

I went by a place yesterday to purchase a cone for my K&N and during the course of conversation, I told him that I had a PTGT, and he said yeah we are doing a lot of work on the SRT's with that engine, bigger turbo's, blah, blah. So I'm thinking yeah, yeah, yeah! Well I took a drive through the back street and daaammnnn, there was this hot looking SRT with all "offical markings" parked outside and a couple more in the garage. I think that I have stumbled upon "the place" to help me with my StageIII install.

That's cool that you have a good setup there! hehe, you have to get Neon clings and put them on the side (like a WWII plane). HmmMMmmmmm...need some horsies and some rising suns....lol

You are correct about the "risk analysis". In my Cost/Benefit Analysis (CBA), any risk to the Rolocoaster is unacceptible. I will try to mitigate cost. The solution side of my equation has always been to keep the car pristine and performing perfectly, which is immutable, so cost will give before risk does; the formula side to get that result has changed a little. I am willing to spend a little more to enjoy my car that much more. "What? Me worry?" is the goal here. I have been kicking all of this around for a few weeks and have arrived at an M.O. with which I am satisfied. Thanks to all on here who have shared their knowledge and experiences, for that was helpful in making an informed decision. [^] I am happy that I am no longer unsettled over this.

Yes, I also hope that some factory f****p does not pop up later that turns the tranny to oatmeal, possible, but unlikely, and I will take that chance and deal with it when it arises. Now I regret not buying that complete 2003 engine I saw on eBay. [xx(]

"...look for the best service department that is available" ..is 1700 miles away and is a friend of the family. I bought my car from a dealer 100 minutes away. I am moving soon (it was going to be to Vegas, but it fell through , so I do not know where or when yet); relationships are temporary by nature of my job. Remember the "I have people skills!..What is wrong with you people!?" guy on Office Space? heh, I am a lot like that guy, only not in denial. So, DIY is the best service department for me. Plus, I like learning new things (I loathe stagnation) and need new worlds to master. "Car won't start" is a pretty good motive to learn something! (My twist on "Necessity is the mother of invention.")

It's not just my car, it's my hobby also. The fact that I sold my other two cars (D'OH!) means that I better get good at my hobby!

So....uhhhhh....When is Stage 2 going to be available?

Dunno, but I'm hoping around Feb to May. Then I'll settle down for a while to get ready for Stage3.

I'm hoping that since Stage II was originally suppposed to be out by now that maybe they are looking at getting Stage II "official" for all 50 states.

If not, then I'll just wait until the 3/36 part of my warranty is up before I install Stage II. I just don't want to have to wait this long.

I've already had to struggle to get TSB work done to my PT because of the Mopar BOV because it had no warranty so be careful with what mods you leave on your car when you roll into a dealer.

Getting stage I or II 50 state legal is like an ant crawling up an elephants leg with intentions of rape.
