Default 03/04-05 vs 06-07 GT's

Hey guys, just wanna pick your brains if you dont mind. Ive been reading alot of information on this board and all over the internet. My question is this....

Comparison: Fuel economy, power, reliability, etc. I know the 06-07 GT has 230 hp but Im wondering if its that much more reliable than the previous year models. Ive always preferred the looks and appeal of the 03-05 all the way around (front upper and lower grills, GT wheels, etc) but reliability is very important. This will be my first turbo'd vehicle and want to make the right choice when the time comes.

All personal opinions are welcome, Thank you in advance.

From what I understand much of that HP difference can be made up by simply swapping the 03-05 metal intake manifold for the 06-07 composite one.

Oh really. Man thats good to know. I am so hooked on the 03-05's. Personal opinion i know but they just look so much better. The 06 and up's are decent inside but Chrysler kinda lost something on those.

Composite intake manifold came in late '05 models.

Other than fuel injectors+intake manifold, I'd have to say the difference for the horsepower is the tuning on them. If 04+ used the same tune as the '03, then the '04 and above would run richer than the '03 model due to the larger injectors.

I'm looking at stepping back into V8 territory. Getting alot of offers for my car, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Ive considered the V8 playground specifically the Mustang GT 05 model but want something more family oriented. Although the Pontiac G8 and Dodge Charger are very nice, something more economical tends to be more appealing.

I'm talking 6.1ltr oldsmobile V8.

I'd stay away from any post '73 Mustang unless it's the latest generation.

2003 215

2004 220 ( Different tune to use the larger injectors)

2005 230 (added plasitc intake)

2006/7 230 ( New pcm on Canbus)

My 2003 GT stick wiht stg 1 PCM(no other mods, stock) and injectors(used on 2004+ GT's) dynoed 227 WHP and 254 WTQ on a dyno jet. A SRT4 wiht stg 1 same day put about 230 WHP and 250WTQ.

Also did one pull with AC on and that ate 7 WHP. I actually forgot to shut it off on first run.

Reliability wise I would assume all would be the same. Not sure which electrical will be more reliable, ie 2003-2005, or the 2006+ with Canbus

The last half of '05 was 230hp, but they didn't claim more hp until the '06 model.

Another interesting dyno story. Love the similar numbers with a srt4 considering the srt4 actually came out stock with 230hp at the wheels. Dodge preached "230hp" at the crank to help young buyers with insurance premiums. This is all well known by the srt4 community. One of the reasons, along with the RX8 stating more hp than they had, manufacturers by law have to have correct hp ratings now. That srt4 was bone stock or he really had problems like boost leaks, etc. Still, your GT had impressive numbers with S1. Congrats.
