I had the same problem on my 95 Caravan, had to have it replaced (after about 4 years)as it was corroded up. I think because of the salt/ice melt[}]on Michigans roads in the Thumb. Now that I live in Florida, hopefully I won't have that problem anymore[?].

i have been leaving my hood popped because of this and a very kind person walked by saw my hood open and latched it for me. the reason i would leave it partially latched was so i could plug the car in without breaking the damn handle. thank you whoever closed my hood. i am wondering about warranty but my mbc is under the hood and i cant open it to take it off bewfore they fix it.

there must be some part of the cable left under the dash, grab it with vise-grips and yank on it....

Gee, here in Texas it actually got down to 22° F and the hood still popped open on the bosses Cruiser.
