Test pipes and cutouts are two different things. Cutouts are Y-pipes used to bypass the exhaust. Test pipes never had a Y. They were simply a pipe to replace the catalytic converter. Since this was/is illegal, these pipes were specifically sold for "testing purposes" only.
2sb is correct - a test pipe is just a pipe the same length as the cat, and would just directly bolt on in place of it.

Yes, it would show the cat didn't work....since it wasn't there.

Thats a pretty cool picture of a "Dump or a Y pipe" I had a "Test Pipe" made while I was in TX for my Saturn. I unbolted my Cat and bolted in a straight pipe in it's replacement. A muffler shop couldnt install it but I just had the same kinda flange as the stock ones put on both ends of a straight pipe. Only thing that sucks is the gaskets go bad when you change it all the time. The Y pipe is a better idea. They also have ones you can pull a cable incab and it switches the exhaust to the dump.

I'm pretty sure that on the PT it will throw up a code, although I can't say for sure as I have not tried it myself. The picture that I posted was the exhaust system/dump tube on my GLH Turbo, a huge stock 1 7/8" system!

According to 3Bar in another thread, it will still throw a light in the Stage kits if you get rid of the cat.

Read his 2nd post on this page:
