Default When does the BOV open?

I am considering the Mopar BOV kit for my cruiser, but i have a question. Does the BOV make noise every time you let off the gas, or only if you are running under boost when you let off the gas?

I believe only when you let off the gas while running under boost. At least according to this thread:

The only thing is that we run boost practically all the time.

If you have the auto you won't notice so much. I kind of like it with my 5 speed though. If you are just accelerating lightly and really shift slowly you won't here it much with the 5 speed either.

Yeah, but sometimes when you are cruising, I pull some vaccuum, may 5-10 inches, when I let off there is no BOV action. If I tap the gas and boost even 2-3 PSI over then I get a proportional BOV response.

the bov will release every time you are under load and the throttle is released. The closing throttle plate blocks the path for the air/boost to enter the throttle body. This, in conjuction with a vacuum source, causes the bov to open. For an aftermarket bov. The mopar one is not an "actual" bov, it is a vent plate for the stock diverter valve.

You have to release the throttle during heavy acceleration. Letting up on it generally will not trigger the surge valve.

The sound is neat. Also educational: I wanted to get a better feel of how my engine runs (until I get to the guage pod).

It is not "Mopar BOV", it is "Mopar BOV Conversion Kit". The only change is that it vents the unused air rather than recycling it back into the input to the turbo. Not recycling that warmer intake air may or may not affect engine performance.
