Default Doesn't Sound Good

Just noticed a noise at idle like a pump going out, maybe a/c or steering although the a/c is putting out cold air (Florida car) and the steering seems ok. Motor and transmission seem fine; no error messages. Anybody experience this and if so what was the culprit?

Is it "squeak squeak squeak?"

Definitely not a sqeak. Hard to describe, sort of intermitent compressor squaks in sync with the motor revs, at least at idle speed.

To eliminate the A/C and Pwr steering pump you have to take the belt off of the tensioner. Which involves jacking the car up etc. Another quick way may be to spray a little WD-40 on the belts area that the squaks are coming from.

Not to be ignorant but methinks putting a lubricant on a belt might make it slip, increasing heat and wear.Maybe belt dressing?

says balsamic dressing ain't bad

If its a squak, squeak or etc, it's possibly a bushing or something that's rubbing. If it's rubbing, and the WD-40 gets into the area it will allay the symthoms (sp)and point out the bad item. Plus the effects of the WD-40 will not be as determenital as the effects from the belt dressing. (as in if someone is using belt dressing or WD-40 to cure a squeak or whatever then...., but you can use something like WD-40 to locate the problem)One thing about WD-40 it will wear off and not leave very much residual residue. Either way that you go, internet trouble shooting is a reach.

If it's under warranty, let the schmoes figure it out. I dunno about you guys, but I'm not turning a wrench on mine until no-one will do it for me for free.

Just as mysteriously as it the noise appeared, it has disappeared. I only drove a short 2 miles to work and back today, but no noise. Go figure.
