Default Raditor fan help please!

Hey guys, I just purchased a 2003 pt cruiser 2.4 turbo gt. Im having a little bit of an issue of the car running hotter than it should be and also a check engine light for P0480 (radiator fan low speed relay). I look under the car and looks like they somehow jimmy rigged im assuming a na radiator fan because the plugs dont match and they spliced wires off the fan and ran a relay and had it on high speed on start up but i took everything off. I just ordered the turbo radiator fan but my question is does the 03 raditator fan assembly has its own relay built in ? I cannot find the relay for the check engine code i have. Also would anyone know if the na pt cruiser rad fan could cause the car to run hotter than normal on the turbo pt? difference in fan blade for better flow? thanks for the help!

You can look in the PDC(Poser Distribution Center) in the engine bay for the relays BUT, I was always told the fan on the Turbo models are variable and not high and low and was controlled by the computer or something else so you might not have the regular 2 relays the non-turbo cars have.

Hmm I wonder what else could cause the check engine code I have. The slots for the relays for non turbo doesnt even have pins for relays to go on

None of those will work...You need to get the special fan from the dealer, only made for the 03 GTs and made by Marcedes Benz ...so you are talking $500-$700 for the fan or get one from a junk yard..

The code is probably because of the jury-rigged fan connection from the person who sold you the car. Once you fix the fan with the suggestion above and disconnect the battery cable (done while replacing the fan), the fault code will be erased and most likely not come back.

Did you disconnect the battery while installing the fan? That should clear the code(s). If you did clear the codes and the engine light came on when you started the car, you have to read the code to see what it is telling you.

What did you do to try and get the fan to come on?
