Default How many miles has your original turbo gone?

Have you had to replace your turbo? If so, what was the mileage at replacement?

If you have not had to replace it, how many miles do you have on it now?

And I'm also curious if it is the GT (220hp) turbo or turbo-lite (180hp).

Mind you, not talking about replacing your turbo charged motor, but the actual turbo itself.

Thanks in advance
Bill

This question leads to much for speculation after the answers. Are you specifically having a concern with your PT?

If I ask you how long do you go before you need to replace your Adidas Trainers?

See what I mean?

Also there are countless posts about Turbo's on this forum. It may take a little time to find what you are specifically looking for but its there.

Its a pretty simple question.
Did your turbo fail and if so how many miles were on it.

If it has not failed, how many miles are on it now?
Not speculative at all, it is quite definitive.

And it has nothing to do with your preference for changing footwear.

I have searched and gone 18 pages deep into the archives, I have not seen the question asked before.

It will be just like my "preference for changing foot"!
The analogy comparing footwear life to a Turbo Chargers life would be like both you have no idea how I wear them or use them. So there can be no comparison to how long the same footwear comparatively speaking will last between one person and another. The manufactures assumes under normal application they should last the same with all who wear them. So apply this analogy to your question and a Turbo Charger instead of footwear has the same idea as a Turbo Charger.

Speculative will be when it comes to assuming there are a common circumstances that caused its failure. Maybe this will help you?. If the engine is serviced properly and the PT not used in any form of competition use the PT's turbo should last 100k+ problem free miles. There are some Turbo PT owners reporting close to or over 200K now on the original Turbo. Not changing the engine oil on a regular basis, not using the proper synthetic oil, driving hard and then shutting off the engine to soon after a hard run, long periods of high engine speeds, anything that the PT was not intended for will prematurely fail the Turbo charger. Common sense!

Your exact question may not have been directly asked however there is lots of information on failed Turbos and the mileage, condition of engine, warranty etc. posted from members. I know it is not easy to find but they are there. maybe a few others may know of specific threads or post and can pass them on to you here?

So my unanswered question that I will ask again, do you have a concern or specific question regarding your personal Turbo Charged PT Cruiser. If so some of may be able to help you?

Yes, I have a 70,000 mile Turbo Lite that was driven lightly by a 92 year old original owner. I am curious what kind of life expectancy it may have.

I've been on lots of auto forums over the years, never seen anyone pre-empt a legitimate thread. What is your concern if people give an honest simple answer to the question???

I have 86k miles, I drive like I stole it and the turbo is still holding....I bought my PT with 51k miles so I doubt the previous owner used synthetic.
But, if it goes bad, it is only $350 for a rebuilt unit and couple of hours to swap it...
Anyways...I don't care much about it, because I'm getting a bigger turbo soon

My 03 GT has 120K on it no problem.

In my sig I have older Dodge turbos. the turbos are very dependable providing you use good oil and filters. I changed the Turbo on my shadow at 200K miles, was a small mitsu unit and replaced it with a bigger Garret,

The mistsu was nice and tight, no play but I used good synthetic oil in it from 43K when I bought it until I changed it.

I think the issues you would see here are used Turbos where people ran crap oil in them and extended the drain intervals which could coke up the bearing the oil feed passages.

The guy I bought mine from had it serviced at a Dodge dealership. Changed the oil almost exactly at 3000 mile intervals, but I'm willing to bet the Dodge store put regular dino juice in it, not synthetic.
