Default 2001 2004 Turbo Swap

I have an 01 2.4 but have the oppertunity to aquire a 04 turbo engine complete. Can I swap this?

01:
2.4 5 speed

04:
Turbo auto

I want to keep the 5 speed in the 01 but put the turbo in.

They changed the way computer reads crank signal, so no- you'd need an aftermarket computer to control the '04

Cylinder head is just a hair different, but you could use rods/pistons, exhaust valves, turbo, etc in '01.

First and foremost you need to do engine management no matter what you are going to do

No one on this site has successfully completed that swap yet. The best way to do this is to get a complete donor car and swap the wiring, computer, everything.

Engine Management? What if I have the computer out of the 04? Also, the 04 is automatic is that controlled by the computer or a separate box?

Listen if it was easy it would have it's own sticky in the how to section. This question has been asked sense the 03 turbo came out. Yet to my knowledge no one has pulled it off to completion on the site. One guy who used to be here has a running example but a derivable daily driver it's not. Still fighting the fuel delivery issue. Every thing in your car is different electrically than the 04. You will need to change everything to use the 04 pcm. Unless you have the ability to piggy back the 04 computer into the system. Bolting the hardware in is noting it's all about the electricals.

OK,

If I have the donor car would I switch out the dash and everything electrical, would that work?

Not to be master of the obvious, but if you swap everything of course it'll work.

I believe you can use the dash stuff as long as the plugs match the harness will be the biggest thing in the inside. Other things to consider is the evap system as well. Your in for a big job. Good luck Maybe you can be the first to do the driver.
