The cool thing about living next to a drag strip is you can go often. People can give you tips on how to do it but practice will make you good at it.

If you don't red line once and a while you are not pushing it

When I go to the strip I deep stage also (roll up until the first yellow comes on then just let the second yellow come on).. The benefit to this is you can leave earlier and when the green light comes on hopefully if you timed it right you are already moving at some rate of speed past the start line. Try the first yellow up from the green.. I go when the 2nd light up from the green goes out.. just depends.. Since you have auto don't put your foot on the brake and give it gas and let up on the break.. it will bog down unless you have an aftermarket torque converter..

If you don't have slicks then never ever roll through the water..
The tracks don't like it when you turn your A/C on.. to turn your cooling fan on because then you leak water on the track at the staging lanes..
When you see a really fast car next to you don't worry you are not racing him/her you are racing yourself (especially with stick don't rev it higher thinking you will launch better because usually you just spin your tires)..
Don't fill up with gas before you go to the track.. 1/4 to 1/2 tank is the best because it will not weigh your car down as much.. clean your car out all the trash.. wash your car.. you will be surprised it moves through the air better when it is clean..

AND LAST PLEASE DON'T DO STUPID STUFF LIKE
Drive down the 1/4 mile strip with your windows down or radio on..

Removing your rear seats will also help in lightening your PT.
