Default Touring "Turbo Lite" vs. GT

I have a totally stock 2004 Touring turbo that I plan on updating just a little.

I've read some threads in here about various improvements done to GTs - and was wondering what the major differences there are in the GT versus my car.

For instance, some people are putting 'Viper' or SRT-4 seats in their GT - will they fit equally well in my Touring?

I plan on keeping this car pretty much as stock as possible, but want to rebuild everything in it to 'better than new' condition, and make some minor cosmetic changes (new paint and refurbish it with a fresh interior, mainly...)

Haven't heard anything about the Viper seats but there's talk about using SRT parts. Maybe someone will jump in and tell you about any swap they made.

Turbo Lite: 180 HP and I believe 185 ft ibs of TQ.

GT: 215 HP and 245 ft ibs of TQ (2003) 220 HP and 245 ft ibs (2004-2005) 230 HP and 245 ft ibs (2006-2007) Auto stick feature/5 spreed Getrag Transmission available. 17" Chrome or alloy 5 spoke rims.

Not really sure if there were any differences in exhausts or suspension. I assume there isn't considering you could Stage the PCM and put out the same number as the GT.

In '03 the only turbo model was the GT. It had some beefed up engine bits and a slightly lower compression than the non-turbos. Some GTs were loaded with all options but some came with painted 17" wheels, cloth seats, no sunroof and without a rear spoiler, but otherwise "everything".

In '04 Chrysler came out with the lower output version as well as beginning to call the GT the "High Output". Starting in '04 the GTs didn't come with any 'deletes' but there were some radio upgrades available including GPS. The good news is, the "Turbo Lite" shares the stronger engine parts of the GT which is why the Stage 1 PCM upgrade works really great to boost power in the "Lite". But no 5-speed manuals were available in the Lite and as mentioned, no Autostick. Also the speedo in the Lite is the 120mph (base) and not the GT 140mph, different upholstery and the dash trim colors are different. The brake package in the Lite has the rear disks instead of drums but they are a lighter duty than the beefier GT brakes. (The heavy duty GT brakes were available as an option for maybe one year at least but I don't recall the details. Not many got those.) As mentioned, 16" wheels instead of 17's. The Lite shares the lighter duty internal anti sway bar with the base models than the beefier GT bar. (Some people have the false belief that starting in '03 the bars were all down graded because the external bars were eliminated. But the internal bar were also beefed up at that time so it was a wash. Of course a bar can still be bolted on for more.) The GT's turbo tones down the noise a bit so it has a slightly louder muffler than the base Cruisers to keep a more aggressive sound. I'm not sure which muffler the Lite gets but if I had to guess, I'd say the GT style with the chrome tip included. I would say that anything you can upgrade in the GT you can also in the Lite including Viper seats.

Starting in '06 I believe the Lites and GTs were trimed out more similar (?) and the next year the GTs went away but the Lites continued on for a couple of years???

I believe I covered it all and as accurately as my old noggin can recall. If anyone has better details, tag 'em on, please.

Actually there is no measurable difference in the rear end axle come the 01 & 2 to the GT. Measured it. There is no sway bar built in that the early models didn't have. It's a torque rod made to flex rather than be stiff. My guess the decided it was not worth the money for the buying public.who knows. Also the lite also came with drum brakes as well.
