Default Airbox mod vs CAI

Well I had a CAI (cone filter inside engine compartment) like many folks run...They should call it a HAI (hot air intake)....I can tell you a modded air box with a K&N drop in really makes a big differenceI can't believe the extra power and throttle response...Its not a placebo effect...I was expecting very little to nothing...Sucking in 70~80 degree air compared to 150 plus engine compartment air really does make a difference...I'm on E85 so maybe it responds differently...I bet 10 WHP between the two! No joke 4 WHP gain on airbox mod and drop in vs losing 6 WHP sucking in all of that hot engine compartment air...

I think it is possibly the E85. Because I gained a lot of power and throttle response by putting in the K&N short ram. It was a very noticeable difference.

But did you do the airbox mod first? You would gain over a stock restricted air box.

No, I didn't. But I didn't lose whp. I gained power. That was my entire point.

Viper's point was that with most of those set ups you are pulling hot air from the engine bay. The air box mod will take air from the fender well. Unless you have the type that is closed off from the engine bay you would have done better with the mod. You now have the benifit of more air flow, but its not good cold air.

I'd rather have the short ram. It works for everyone where I'm from. I know a guy who has done both. He liked the actual intake better. It's whatever you're most comfortable with.

Oh I know. I'm not offended in any way. I understood what you meant. Not to mention I love the sound.
