Will taking the silencer out of my airbox void my warranty?

andym, welcome to the forum. Taking the silencer out of the airbox should not void the warrenty.

Sorry, Jason Brown, not Jim Brown. And the compromise between the PT-Cruiser and the SRT-4 came more from future considerations of autocrossing, versus any particular difficulties with the Cruiser.

I ordered the K&N drop-in filter--hopefully it should be here in a couple of days--and I'll let everyone know how the baffles go...

Taking it out will not, in itself, affect your warranty. The dealer would need to demonstrate that whatever problem you were experiencing was a result of the modification.
