Default Turbo Cooling Fan Wiring Diagram

Does any know where I can get a copy of a wiring diagram for the cooling fan for a turbo? The fan has a 4 conductors connector and my Haynes manual and everything I find on the web shows three conductors. Thanks!

The non-turbo's have (or use) only two speeds of the fan motor whereas the turbo models have (or use) a variable speed controlled by the PCM. That's probably why the difference in connectors.

Even the Haynes and Chilton manuals that cover the 2001-2009 models including the turbo's only had the diagram of the 3-wire fan motors.

Here's the write-up from PT Do-It-Yourself.net

Turbo Radiator Fan

The radiator cooling fan is a variable speed electric motor driven fan. The radiator fan assembly includes an electric motor, fan blade, and a support shroud that is attached to the radiator. The radiator fan is serviced as an assembly (fan motor/fan/shroud).

The variable speed radiator fan is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) by way of a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal. The duty cycle ranges from 30% for low speed operation then ramps-up to 100% for high-speed operation. This fan control system provides infinitely variable fan speeds, allowing for improved fan noise, A/C performance, better engine cooling, and additional vehicle power.

To control radiator fan operation, the PCM looks at inputs from:

Engine coolant temperature
A/C pressure transducer
Ambient temperature
Vehicle speed
Transmission oil temperature (automatic transmission only)

The PCM uses these inputs to determine when the fan should operate and at what speed.

Thanks for the info. How does one check to see if the fan is working at variable speeds? My fan runs when the engine gets up to temp, but I am having overheating problems and I was hoping to rule out the fan.

Good question. I think I was the first one who tested the two speed fan by taking a hot and ground wire to the pins on the connection to the fan but nobody has ever said anything about the variable fan. Probably not a way of testing it since the actual speeds are controlled by the PCM.

Maybe there's a way with a good scanner since it can turn the low and high speed on of a non-turbo.

Precisely.
The four wires to the turbo radiator fan connector are:
Pin #1 Bk 10 gauge - ground
Pin #2 vt/rd 10 gauge - battery power
Pin #3 dg/or 16 gauge - from auto shut down relay in the PCM
Pin #4 db/dg 10 gauge - from the radiator fan motor control in the PCM
