Default General Maintenance Question

I just picked up my (new to me) 2004 PT Turbo w/ Auto Stick with 56400 miles on it, and they actually offered me an extended warranty plan, because of the low mileage. It would cover the Turbo, AC, Control Arms and a bunch more items. It does not cover normal maintenance items, belts, hoses, lights, etc. It would be for 3 yrs or 36000 miles.

Question is, do these items typical go 'out' before 92,000 miles which is when it would expire? Also if one of these major items go, what does it cost to replace them. I have never owned a Turbo, have no idea what it would cost to replace them yet. I can do a lot of basic repairs, but when it comes to Turbo's and AC units I don't have a lot of the tools and knowledge. When do the problems usually arise for these major items?

Not to be too demanding, but I need to let them know before 6:00 CST, if I want to include it in my loan.

Thanks, for any help.
John T

I bought one similar coverage at $1500. 2008.. it was only 5 yrs old.... but insisted they change the timing belt ... I'd be looking into that considering it's 9 yrs old and it's a big job ( 1000+ ) ..
.
It's nice to have the piece of mind, but looking back... wasn't worth the $ for me, mine was well taken care of and only had 65,000 miles.

The Turbo is strong, fast and reliable.. People that don't understand the love of a PT, probably don't deserve to.

Personally, it your adding it to your loan and it's only adding a few dollars a month, I'd do it. Peace of mind for as long as it lasts. The things it doesn't cover are the normal wear and tear items and the rest could become expensive if you can't do the work yourself. What's the deductible? Try and talk them into giving you a zero deductible since your buying a car from them and about to add their warranty.

Duh! Yea did forget that one. It would be $1500 to add it. Did have free rental and towing in it.

And I don't think it would cover the timing belt if that's considered 'normal maintenance.

Cool Re: General Maintenance Question

Yes, "peace of mind" is "priceless"!
But, I've had 3 Cruisers with only 1 warranty issue.....shorted battery cable in the first one I owned. And, even that was during the original warranty.

And....if you have a AAA membership, towing is a non-issue.

Just checked with the guy, it would be a $50 deductible. And that would be refunded on a major repair. He basically explained they did that to limit some of the people that call and expect to bring it in or be towed for every little item.
It does not require any normal maintenance be done by them.

For Soonercruiser;
I may have miss stated what this is. It's not really a extended warranty it's an extended service plan. It covers 1000+ items per their (Ford) Premiumcare and would fix or replace items, some of which I don't think would be under factory warranty. To tell you the truth I don't know totally what is covered by Chrysler's warranty.

My main question is do many things typically go wrong before the 92,000 miles
like AC, Turbo, Lower control arms?

Thanks,
John T

Any of the three can and have happened in that time frame.

Thanks for the info guys, looks like I have until tomorrow night to make my decision. He won't be filing the finance papers until Monday morning.
I'll research it a little more.

Also you didn't mention the name of the warranty company, which is important.

Use chryslerwarrantys.com as a guide to cost and coverage.

Check their name under google and ripoffreport.com to see what people have to say.

And remember the cost is negotiable
