Default 2004 2.4L Turbo-Clutch problem

Hello, I am new to this site, but I have been doing a lot of reading about transmission, and clutch problems so I can help diagnose what's wrong with my cruiser. A couple of weeks ago, my clutch just went....it left me stranded on the side of the road....it would go into each gear but the clutch wouldn't pull at all....nothing...so I took it to a local mechanic, and he seemed to be clueless on PT Cruisers....first he said I needed a new clutch, he kept ordering the wrong part...just a regular clutch and flywheel....but my cruiser has the dual flywheel....(I am a girl..so bare with me if my terminology is incorrect) After sending the wrong part back 2x he said I would need to get the clutch with dual flywheel.....my budget is low so I told him to just go ahead with the new clutch....and use the original dual mask .......all of that was 500.00 including labor....when I picked my car up....it wasn't right...I couldn't barley get it into gear....if I pumped the clutch it would work better...so I drove it a few days hoping it would get better, but it only got worse....I took it back to him, he said I should have gotten the whole assembly....There is a popping sound when I engage my clutch....I think its the master clutch cylinder....its popping loose not allowing my clutch to fully engage.....when I put it back in place my car runs smooth....so my question is...do you agree that I need to replace my entire clutch system again with a new dual mask flywheel? or just the master cylinder for the clutch? Thanks so much for any suggestions....

That sounds like the clutch master cylinder wasn't bled right.......

Try to get a look at where the master cylinder/clutch pedal assembly mounts to the firewall.......A member posted an issue similar to what your describing, and it turned out to be the metal had cracked where the upper bolt mounts to the firewall, and 'popped' whenever the pedal was pushed in.
I don't remember if they posted an update on how(or if) it ended up being repaired.
Here's the area of the firewall you should be looking at in this photo:

PT_Firewall.jpgThis is from a PT w/ATX,so there is only the metal coverplate(2 bolts) showing,on a PT w/MTX the clutch pedal gets bolted on the interior, and the master cylinder is bolted to the exterior.
