Default Changing the turbo

Hello, all!
My daughter's 2005 GT Turbo made a loud screech, then ran poorly. Dealer found three error codes and said turbo is shot. Wants 4500.00 to replace it. I have the car back home, and found aftermarket turbo for 350.00 in the internet.
Car has 79k miles, otherwise in good shape.
What would be a reasonable cost to replace the turbo, and is it a DIY project? I have all the tools necessary but have never done this type of repair.
Thanks!

It is a pretty easy DIY replacement if you have some experience working around engine and tight access.
You could also try to rebuild your TURBO yourself. Danny aka Busted_PT has a great DIY thread on how to do it.

What do you mean aftermarket? You do not want to go with anything but an stock OEM turbo for your situation!

If you don't want to tackle it yourself, any decent garage should replace it for 500$ or so...

Be sure and determine why the turbo died - you should replace the oil lines and be sure and use synthetic oil.

Sometimes all they want is their problem fixed and their gone. Often without any follow up on the outcome. Just part of this type of forum.
