Default Dual mass flywheel help

Hey guys I finally found a 5sp getrag replacement trans for my 03 DC since my second gear is shot. Anyway as well as a bunch of other parts,I also got the pressure plate and flywheel.

I will send this dual mass flywheel out to get resurfaced while I wait for my ebay clutch to arrive but I have a question. If I try to rotate the two plates there is about 1/4 inch of movement. Is this normal?

Just saw this post but as you found out its normal. Its designed that way to take some of the load and shock of the drivetrain

Thanks xwing. I have never used one of these dual mass flywheels before. Well its pretty cool because it makes it easy to bolt up the trans since the flywheel now connects like a torque converter on an auto trans.

Thanks for the link Lion. one of the articles primary concerns was that there was poor starting and starter engagement problems as the ring gear is part of the flywheel. On the pt cruiser there is actually a separate flexplate with the ring gear which enables the two to be separated. On the pt the whole clutch assembly will install onto the input shaft of the trans, much like a torque converter on an auto trans and then bolt up the same way to the flex plate. So It appears the PT wouldn't suffer from this issue.

The PT can't avoid the rest of the potential "problems" though. Mostly it just seems like wearing out issues described as opposed to "problems", to me, but I am not an expert here.

Well we will see how the clutch reacts when I put it in the car. My flywheel only had maybe slightly more rotational movement than the new one in the video and no side to side bearing play. As well, the shop, which does nothing else but rebuild clutches, assured me it was fine so I will keep my fingers crossed!
