Default High Engine Idle and NO CODES

I have a 2003 PT Dream Cruiser which I had parked a few months ago. When I went to drive it all sorts of codes were being thrown. Apparently critters got the frame rail harness which cleared many codes. Replaced MAP, TIP, O2, wheel speed sensors and all codes cleared. The only problem that remains is the fact that the engine idles at about 1400 to 1600 rpm and will not go lower. I checked for codes again but nothing. By the way the code checker wasn't one of the home ones, it was a high end SnapOn unit that he uses for his business ( he is a truck mechanic, does cars for friends)

What could this be? I miss my Dream Cruiser and need to get it back on the road.

It sounds like one of the critters took a bite out of one of the vacuum hoses. Any leak of vacuum will cause the idle to raise. Check all the rubber vacuum hoses that you can find.

Clean or replace the IAC.

i'd guess crewzin has the right idea. i have had a plethora of problems caused by critter chewing this year. i dont see why they wouldn't chew a vacuum line, seeing they did this to my cap:

Thank you for all the quick help. Didn't think of the vacuum lines. I think the IAC was cleaned or replaced but will double check. I am amazed at what trouble little critters can cause.

I love my dream cruiser. Its only stock but so much fun to drive.

Could a problem with the PCM be causing the high idle? My mechanic friend checked for vacuum issues and IAC was replaced. Just weird because no DTC's to indicate the problem.

It's always a possibility but highly unlikely. Did you check the throttle cable on top of the engine for free play or binding of the cable? One thing you might try is taking off the negative battery cable for 5 minutes. Step on the brake while the cable is off, then re-attach everything to see if that resets the computer faults. Can't hurt.

Will check. I did notice that one of the throttle cables did seem loose. I will definitely do the battery reset as well. Thanks as always.

don't overlook the obvious. make sure the throttle body is closing all the way.

Should have the young-ins see their dentist if they are "teething" on your Cruiser!
