Default PT Cruiser Axles

I wanted to help "kill" a concern about a couple of question and comments that have come up on PT forums about axles.

Here is the company I have used for dozens of axles over the years and specifically 3 sets in the last 2 years for PT Cruiser's.

The company manufacture completely NEW axles for the NA, Turbo model as well the automatic and the manual transmission PT Cruisers.

They also have a line of other parts like hubs and suspension parts.

The specification are at least at Chrysler specification and the clearances and quality control seems to be very good.

In the many years of using them I have not had one fail under the warranty due to any manufacturing defect.

Comparatively speaking the prices are well affordable and your can buy them direct or on line for a pair less than 150.00 shipped.

IMO the best bearing to use are SKF.
SKF bearings are manufactured in so many countries it is very hard to find USA manufactured SKF bearing for some applications or even to order them. However SKF have held a reputation for quality control that is is very unlikely no matter what the origin of country that you get in the box you will have any problems with. They will randomly pull product and check for specification. If any are out of spec' they will pull the production run and adjust the machining for correctness.

I did a measurement of the bearing and the hub and found them to be very good and tight for clearance measurements.

In most places on the internet you can get a pair of these for around $60 shipped. I do recommend that you inspect the contents and make sure that they are clearly marked and manufactured by SKF.

Due to a forced error on my part, mixing HOAT and Dex-Cool, when broke down, sub-zero temps in a small town. I was under my 01 pt draining the deadly mix and noticed a torn axle boot. Are the manual trans, non turbo axles the same as the auto axles? Approaching 200k I thought Id treat her to a new pair. Does anybody know? NitroPT or some one else?

The Turbo GT have an intermediate shaft right side and the length of the drive axle is shorter.

The company posted has the correct axles for all the model PT cruisers.

The turbos run with half shafts and naturally aspirated with the unequal length. Make sure you look for A/T or M/T, does make a difference

Not sure why you quoted me as my information was acurate. You may want to read the complete thread again?

Besides your discription of parts is a bit off! Half shaft are generally referred to as axles on FWD vehicles and there are unequal length half shafts.

RockAuto.com now carries SurTrack axles which are brand new and have a lifetime warranty for ~$45 each.

After discount and shipping, it works out to ~$100 for two. Great deal!

A lifetime warranty does not always mean that you are going to get a better axle or better service when a problem comes up..

The "LIMITED LIFETIME" warranty is dealt with through the vendor of purchase as per Trackmotive.

Features & Benefits:
Brand new construction with precision machined and heat treated center-shafts, cv joints, bearings and races.
Designed from the ground up to meet and exceed all OEM requirements in fit, form and function. All CV Axles come with all necessary hardware for professional installation.
All CV Joints are packed with High-Temperature , High Performance moly grease.
Manufactured entirely in our state-of-the-art ISO9001:2008- AND TS1649:2009 certified manufacturing facility.
Our CV Axles are fully assembled for ease of installation.
CV Axles are manufactured with high quality neoprene rubber boots to protect against the elements on and off-road conditions and fastened with stainless steel straps.
All new designs are torture tested to failure to ensure maximum durability.

I have used these only once and could not say that the price point alone did not encouraged me to use them again.

I agree. The same can be said about the product and warranty from any company.

If I ever need to buy an axle, I will likely give these SurTrack axles a try.

i snapped a "limited lifetime" honda axle from vatozone and not only would they not replace it, no parts store would even take it as a core because i snapped the shaft in half. looked like someone stuck a finger in the end of elmer fudds shotgun.

idk if i'd want to bother with mail order warranty. thats one of those "instant gratification" parts, no

poly mounts with wheel hop after hitting 2nd if anyone wondered

Yup, who knows if any of these guys will actually honour the warranty. At least, with the Surtrack, there is a chance that you could use them for longer than 12 months and they might warranty it. The DTA ones with the 12 month warranty will be mail order too, for most people, but almost certainly after 12 months you will be SOL.
