Default I have a cricket somewhere in my dash

This weird noise started a few days ago. It sounds just like the sound a cricket makes at night. And it only happens when I have the fan on. It doesn't seem to matter whether it is hot or cold air or where the air is blowing. As soon as I turn the fan off, the noise stops.
It's intermitent by the way. Doesn't happen everytime I turn the fan on. The air might be blowing for some time without any noise and then the cricket-like noise starts out of nowhere.

Has anyone experienced this?

At first I thought it was ticks again:

I haven't had it with the PT (since I garage it), but sounds like what I've had with other cars - a leaf or parts of a leaf - make their way thru air intake 'till they hit the fan blades. Sometimes they'll drop, and things are quitet, then suction pulls them up and they flutter.

Suggestion- put fan on full high for a while - often this'll chop them up and pieces will come out vents.

Reading your post again - that doesn't sound like a cricket. If there's a squeakiness to it, I suspect lubrication. Find the fan motor and spray it with silicone spray.

Now, we had cricket under the hood and the boss lady took the GT to the dealer and lo and behold the power steering pump was on the verge of failure. They are replacing the pump, we will pick up the car tomorrow.

mine does the same when the alternator is under load ie: lights, fan or rear defrost. I'm thinking my belt must be a tad loose...

Lubrication problem, that's what I was thinking. I used to get a similar noise from a CPU fan in my old computer.
I'd like to lubricate the fan motor but I'm mechanically challenged and I'm afraid to spray the wrong thing. [B)]
