Default School me, please.......

I have a question that I'm sure you more experienced cruisers can answer. I have an 05 GT HO automatic. Now what is the difference between the stock turbo that it came with, and the Stage 1 or Stage 2 that everyone is talking about? I am very interested to find out.

I'm not more experienced, just well-read.
Stage 1 is a replacement engine computer that alters engine timing and fuel injection, producing more torque and a few more horsepower - also reprograms auto shifting.
You have to find a used stage 1, and get it reprogrammed with your cars VIN.
There is no stage 2 for PT cruisers.
NitroPT likes this.

Thank you for the information. In your opinion would the upgrade be worth the effort being you said it increased torque and a few horsepower. Is it a substantial increase?

Yes! You can also buy a Stage 1 ready to go from FWD Performance (I believe they still sell them) or from Syked Performance. Syked will probably require your computer or an extra core sent to him.

While mopar only officially released the Stage 2 for the SRT4, Syked offers a custom adaptation to the PT, but you will have to install the required larger injectors and wastegate, the same as you would have to on an SRT4.

"Stage 1 Turbo Upgrade Kit for PT Turbo boosts power to 235 hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque."

But the 2005 already had:"
TORQUE 245 ft-lbs. @ 2800 rpm HORSEPOWER 220 hp @ 5100 rpm "

Premium fuel is recommended for the normal GT, with Stage 1 it is more of a requirement...

IMO (based on carefully set Deltas and repeated and repeatable runs) after Chassis DYNO testing a STAGE 1 vs DST your money would be better spent with a DiabloSport tuning tool.

PM me if you would like better details this can become a heated discussion from passionate members about PCM and ECU/EFI Performance Calibrating.
