Smile Turbo lite questions...

Hello everyone

I am new to the forum. I have been going threw a lot of threads. And I think I know the answer to my questions, but when in doubt ask they always say!

I have a 2004 Touring Edition with a automatic transmission. It's a Turbo. It has a 120mph speedometer. This makes it's a Turbo Lite?? Right?

I am planning on some upgrades. As I understand it the Turbo Lite's PCM is not usable with the Diablosport? I would need a stage one PCM or the Syked Stage 1? and then I can run the Diablo Sport??

Just getting started and making a game plan. It's my second Cruiser. But my first anything with a Turbo. It's got 87k, new timing belt and rebuilt head. I need to run a compression test and look it over really well before I start wrenching. And I am sure i will have more questions. I will eventually start a thread about my car and it's updates.

Thanks in advance for any info!
Larry

Here's the deal...

Some have reported that a Diablosport gizmo will work with a Stage 1 or Syked ECM installed in a Turbo Lite. However, I've had a hard time finding a real trustworthy reference for using the Stage 1 to cure the Diablosport compatibility problem. And the guy at Sykes Tuning (that reportedly can make anything work) is said to have quit and taken a day job somewhere.

I have some ideas as to how and why the Stage 1 will sometimes work and why it might not under other conditions. But I don't want to discuss those openly right now because I cannot confirm it. I will only say that some reports of this working on internet forums may have more to do with the way the VIN was flashed or not flashed rather than anything else.

In summary, to do this, find someone that has first hand experience doing this. And then do it exactly the same way they did it using the same ECM from the same vendor and addressing the VIN/SKIM issue the same way. Otherwise, you may be out close to a grand on parts your cannot use together.

1ST Generation PTs are PCM not ECM there is a difference.

Interesting theory about VIN flashing? I have to think about that one? Never made a in/out ECU flash incorrect before not sure how you can flub that one up. The tool to do this will not except incorrect data input. But anything is possible?

Dioblow Sport has some unresolved calibration concerns with PT's. My personal PT has never been dealer flashed and the base DST did not confirm active and had to be adjusted to an older version to activate?

Sykes Tuning is still in business only the owner has diversified to make a living other then from engine management calibration or upgrades.

My recommendation is unless you are pretty well experienced with the basic tuning of a PT and at least some experience with PCM performance calibrating is not to attempt any change upgrading PCMs until at such time there is more concrete success and specific information on accomplishing it. I am speaking in terms of this threads subject matter and model PT's. Not the GTs.

Mike and Todd seem to be working on a "secret" PCM project that may help with PCM upgrading or change overs?

Yep.

Depending on the year, they made both Touring and Limited editions with turbos. All had automatics.

Thanks guys. These are the answers I needed. For the moment I will leave the stock PCM in it and hopefully a more solid (positive tested) solution will come along. I'll keep an eye out for Turbo Lite projects that people are working on.

It seem there are many older references to flashing a GT pcm to a light vin# Same with the Stage 1. Have no idea if the Diablosport will then be compatible. Never saw this in the findings I saw. But I have not done one myself, to be clear.
