I was interested in changing my cat to a 3" Magnaflow (oboII). The shop that did my custom duals said that it was california legal, it wouldn't cause CEL's and should not void a car's warranty if my DCX dealership allows cat-back systems.
My concerns are: 1. I thought that getting 3" downpipes were not availble for GT's. I know on the forums, there is a person that makes a custom 3" downpipe. 2. Is changing your cat considered cat-back? (i.e. 3" Maganflow with Mopar Duals considered cat-back?) 3. Anyone has a 3" magnaflow cat and care to coment on it? 4. I doubt the CEL will be a problem since an exhaust is being changed, but it just bothers me and I need reassurance that CEL's don't prop up. ![]() 5. Most important of all, does going to a 3" cat increase the noise level? The borla duals are at an acceptable level atm for me. |

I'm a bit of a noob on this downpipe/cat issue, so I'll ask:
Is the order suppose to be Downpipe -> Cat -> Muffler/Exhaust ? So than I would need to expand the downpipe opening to 3" and use a 3" cat to get the benefits of a 3" to 2.5" exhaust for stage 2 (no plans to install stage 2, just want to do modifications that doesn't affect warranty) [ ]? |

A 3" cat by itself will not make your car louder, the sound is determined by the muffler/silencer.
The order is: Downpipe, Cat and then cat-back. Going with a 3" cat in my opnion is not a good idea, you need a 3" downpipe, and if possible, a 3" cat-back. That's what I have in my car.

I installed the www.MaxxFab.com SS 3" DP with 3" cat a few weeks ago. It's the schmitz. Scott makes them specifically for the GT. He can answer all of your questions. GREAT customer service and VERY prompt with his reply emails. He has it set up to use the MOPAR exhaust. Or will adapt it to any other setup you need. IMHO, you can't go wrong installing it. GREAT bang for the buck. Good Luck with your decision. [8)]

Looks like a great system. However, my dcx dealership doesn't like the idea of a new downpipe and cat, they told me that cat-back is okay and doesn't affect my warranty.
Guess, I'm pretty much stuck on dreaming till my warranty runs out. [B)] |
