vw beetle turbo manual vs chrysler pt cruiser gt automatic?
|
|

|
I would go with a slight favor to the VW Turbo (manual) since they are capable of doing a 1/4 in 15.2s, assuming he/she is a(n) professional/expert driver.
GT automatics will do a 1/4 from 15.1 to 15.7s. I would think the automatic cruiser would be easier to launch and your times will be more consistent. Expect a drivers race between the 2. Other than that, GT manuals would give a better 1/4 mile results, but not by much. |

I forgot that there is 2 types of turbo beetles, one is 150hp and the other is 180hp (Turbo S).
The GT's shouldn't have a problem vs. VW Bettle Turbo (150hp). The VW Beetle Turbo S (180hp) will give more problems. |

NO!
The turbo beetle has some trouble in the real world putting down the performance attributed to it. The PT GT on the other hand highly underrates it's actual power. My son's best friend has the 180 beetle, and they both agree that the PT is definitely the better performer![8)] |

My Father-In-Law has one of the new Beetles, any pep in the engine is going to be quickly smothered by it's body styling. At lower speeds it handles decently but once you get moving it feels like you're driving a sail-boat. Not that we are exactly svelte in comparison but our PT's have a far superior ride and control. Turning radius aside mind you. :P

Let's see, we've discussed the Mini Cooper S vs PT GT and now the New Beetle Turbo S vs PT GT. Well, at Road&Track Magazine the three went head to head (to head) back in Jan '03. You can see the full article at http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.... er=1&preview= but the salient bits are pasted below:
"Our Stalker radar gun verified just how strong the PT felt. At California Speedway's drag strip, it clicked off a 7.2-second 0-60 run 0.4 and 0.5 sec. quicker in this contest than the New Beetle and Mini, respectively. The PT held on to its advantage through the quarter-mile, its 15.7-sec. posting edging the Beetle's (15.8) and Mini's (15.9). Yet a scan of the data panel reveals the Mini has a slightly higher trap speed than the Chrysler (89.3 mph, versus 88.9), and reaches 100 mph slightly quicker." Gold - PT Cruiser GT Turbo Silver - New Beetle Turbo S Bronze - Mini Cooper S |

There you go! I already knew as much. The GT is.....

I demand a new test with GT manuals, car magazines seem to have a love affair with GT automatics vs. other manual cars [:0]
