Default 03 gt running rough, stalling

hey guys, wifes 03 has some major issues, and not sure where to start, any input much appreciated.
Car runs ok for a week or two, check engine light comes on, then starts bogging down, stalling at stop lights/signs, hard to restart (but always does). She also notices heavy exhaust or fuel type smell, her words not mine, and goes thru fuel like a big dog at these times. I can get a quick fix by disconnecting negative battery cable for 5-10 minutes, then reconnecting. After my quick fix, no check engine light, all systems go, car runs good for a week or so, then it all starts over again. With so many codes being thrown I'm not sure where to start. Any one been thru this scenario before, what can I do to start remedying this situation. Its been going on for far too long. Thanks for your input.

0106 MAP Sensor (manifold absolute pressure)
0121 TP Sensor (throttle position)
0129 MAP? or Low Barometric Pressure?
0172 fuel inj. sys. too rich (downstream oxygen sensor?)

What is the mileage of the car? If somewhat high, you might try a set of new 02 sensors.

Hi CREWZIN, cars got 96k on it, have had it for a few years and really haven't done anything to it other than oil changes and basic maint.

Just wondering, would bad O2 sensor(s) cause the other fault codes?

It seems that you had the P0129 trouble code come up in April 29, 2011? If so after resetting the DTC did you ever get this code back until now?

I would suggest you check the wiring going to the MAP Sensor. Also check the MAP Sensor. Some of the codes you got can be set due to the MAP sensor readings are not corresponding to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) readings.

Have you tried resetting the DTC's with a OBDII Scan tool and see they come back?

You are due for a timing belt replacement soon if you have not done it yet.

Thanks for the reply ptcruisersteve, Yes, been having problems for quite awhile, the wiring seems ok.I have no way of checking the sensor itself. I have reset the codes by disconnect of the neg battery cable, they always come back eventually. Same codes, same problems. It makes sense from your writing that the sensor could be the cause of other codes being thrown. Never tried resetting with OBDII scan tool. Driving to work this am (9 miles) got halfway there and CEL came on, ran a bit rough but made it. Did the neg cable disconnect again for 10 min before heading home, no CEL and car ran ok to house. All that being said, I recently started work for NAPA and can get parts fairly cheap. I also called a shop we do a lot of business with and am getting it in tomorrow while at work to have them do their majic, hopefully they can diagnose the problem(s) and get the wifes car back in good running order without costing me an arm and a leg. And yes sir, I realize that 100K timing belt, water pump etc is fast approaching. Again, I appreciate your input and will keep the forum posted as to the results I get after shop time. Thanks, john.

I would suggest you get your own OBDII Scan Tool. With all the help from other members from this forum you could do a lot of the work yourself.

Googling now, thank you!

edit: napa warehouse sells for $120 retail, so think with employee discount I may be able to beat that price. Thanks again.
