Default 03 Pt Cruiser with no turbo

Hi everyone,

I have a 03 pt cruiser 2.3L Turbo, but the previous owner removed the turbo and just put a regular exhaust manifold on and plugged up all of the lines that ran to the turbo. The thing is it has a check engine light because of it.. Can i just reflash/reprogram the ecu to a non-turbo pt cruiser program or even swap it out with a ecu from a non turbo pt cruiser?

Thank you,
subclassic

How does it run? The turbo should have lower compression than an NA car. would expect it to be kind of a pig.

I don't think you can just swap computers. It would probably be easier and more cost effective to return it to stock with the turbo. The turbo itself is pretty durable. You should be able to pull all that stuff at the junkyard for a fair price.

+1. The car will never be right unless restored to the original configuration. If it was me, I would do as Fk5 suggested if the car was worth it. And if not, I'd just drive it with the check engine light on. Doing a bunch of work just to kill the check engine light is a worthless pursuit unless you fix it right with a replacement turbo.

And the turbo PT's do show up at salvage yards. So if you look around, you can like find one or two to get parts off of.

I thought I couldn't pass inspection with a check engine light on. Maybe I misread going to recheck, and I live in Texas if anyone knows the law on that.

You can't pass in NY. I doubt you can anywhere that checks.

What is the error code? Most likely the cause of the engine light has nothing to do with the absence of the turbo.
Many places, like AdvanceAuto, will pull up error codes for free.
Find out the cause of the check engine light and go from there.

Does Texas even check that? I thought they were pretty well dead set against those kinds of socialist trappings like we are here in Arkansas.
