That is a great time! Hopefully we can get ours to run that! I dont have anything Cruiser-wise to back this up on, but reseting the computer has alot to do with additional performance. The factory ECU will set its a/f, timing, etc maps off of the air ratio incoming to the car (taking in 0-100% throttle). When this factor is adjusted, such as intakes, BOOST, etc, it throws off the "determined" maps. The car does not automatically adjust, but has to learn the new air flow ratio. Then it can re-draw new maps. Of course I dont have anything solid to back this up with, but the addition of power-adders and resetting the ECU was a major part tuning our Accords.

I attribute better time to hotter tires, better launch, better driving etc.

Show me a difference in mph, and maybe ill believe our pcm's tune 25 hp for us. MPH is a good indicator of hp, not the 1/4 mile time. The night I ran those crazy times, my mph was either 93 or 94.

Macster,

I checked your data, you are correct, it shows a decrease in performance and then it stays constant.

My question is... What is your daily driving like?
I take trafic jams in the morning and in the afternoon. when I go to the track, all the passes start geting better than the previous one. then it settles down in a constant.

Once I leave the track the car feels powerfull, the trany shifts later (3000 to 3500) and solid. it actualy makes the car jumps ahead when driving normaly.

A few days later, it goes back to the normal car that I have fealt, the shifts are smooth, soft and in trafic it shifts again at the 2000 to 2500 rpm mark

I may be wrong but I know there is something inside that PCM that bugs me...

Ian

Slammed! Ian I'm am probably the worst person to use as an example. I drive my car about once every two weeks or at the most once a week and that's on the weekend. So my car is going to perform way out of the norm. Which as we have seen that it does.

Don't get me wrong.

I don't want to create waves or make anybody feel bad.

All I am saying is that the electronics in our cars are self learning.

they will adjust acordingly to the driver style. when we want it to perform, it will drag its but for some time before it will give all it got.

I am very old school, i used to work on cars that the only electronic thing in them was the radio. But I have learned that today HP is made with software, not hardware and the PCM is to blame.

I loved the Turbo magazine article on the SRT, they spent over a $1,000.00 in parts to produce almost the same HP that they would have gotten with stage 1.

Ian I hear you. But my point is that my car is a bad example, because it get's driven so infrequently that it's almost like starting from scratch each time I start it up. I had forgotten about that, when I responded to your post about the ECU learning theory. If I drove my car every day then it would be useful to prove whether or not your theory is correct. But since I don't drive my car every day then, my experiences would be classified as not revelant.

Now this had me thinking........yeah, I know - dangerous! I pretty much baby my car in day to day driving, so if the PCM has "learned" this then it I suppose it follows that it's a bit surprised when I'm seriously pushing it. Next time at the track I want to try the following:

1. Pull over at a burger place for lunch a block or so from the track and disconnect the negative battery terminal while I chow down
2. Hook up the battery and do a couple of WOT starts on the way to the track - the surrounding area is pretty wide open and should allow for this sort of thing without getting me busted - I also won't be reaching 90mph when I do this!
3. See what happens at the track starting with Run 1. If I'm significantly faster then the question is answered with a resounding "well, yeah, maybe".[:I]

The mistery continues.

Mike, I tried more or less this on the track with my 03 GT when It was stock.

I first did 15.6... then I "reseted" the PCM, the car did 15.30, this was with 20 minutes diference, the temp was the same and it was at night.

I will create some quicktime video of the passes and post them in my .Mac account.
Will post the link when I have learned how to do this in Mac. (ex Windows user)

Ok, so whats the correct way reset it on the GT? We can run 15.3 without resetting so maybe we can tip the 14s by doing it.[8]
