Default Intercooler piping upgrade, charge pipe same as NSRT-4?

Well another cold ass weekend so instead of prepping my car for the motor I'm sitting inside waiting for it to get a little warmer out than 15 degrees, although I may still do my clutch... Anyways to the point of my post.

After yanking my intercooler piping on and off all the time wrenching on the car I figured I would look at upgrading the piping to get rid of the stock rubber piping and replace it with some nice metal ones.

I've found AMX - Needswings replacement piping for the lower and upper intercooler piping, a little pricey since they have some teflon coating on it, but I had also found Ebay piping for the PT Cruiser but now that I looked for it, it is gone.... What are the opinions on the teflon coating? Is there something to be gained here or no? I will be pushing 20+ psi of boost once I get it all together.

If nothing else I may buy some pre-bent intercooler piping kit and hack together my own.

But now to the main question, does anyone know if the charge pipe for the PT Cruiser and the NSRT-4 are the same (pipe from turbo to intercooler)? I have owned both and if memory serves correctly they are very similar if not the same design. I'm currently struggling to match part numbers but I am seriously convinced they will fit on one another so I was curious if anyone knows if this is the case? I may just have to ask my friend to take his charge pipe off of his NSRT-4 so we can compare. The reason I ask is I was looking to replace that on my car with this

My theory is that even if the intercoolers are a little off from one another the way the charge pipe is designed is "close enough" so that when you attach the lower hard pipe upgrade (a 90 degree elbow essentially on both cars there is a transition from the metal charge pipe to soft rubber on stock piping) you would be able to compensate for any differences in the angle of the intercooler inlet, and if the elbow is too long you can cut the pipe down without much trouble.

I believe the bolts would match up on the PT Cruiser for the NSRT-4 charge pipe because those parts are the same at least from the turbo to some point in front of the motor.

Nevermind I managed to confirm my suspicions that it will work. If anyone else is wondering the answer is yes.

It is nice that you have confirmed that it will fit. I have thought that they would interchange, but I wasn't sure.

As far as eliminating the restriction at stock pipe bottleneck, couldn't you simply cut that off and either extend the pipe or use a longer piece of hose? It would likely be much cheaper than the custom pipe, although not as pretty.

Wow, I have those needs wings Teflon pipes on my car and I never would have imagined they cost $300!! Pretty expensive for a few elbows! They do look nice I guess.

I would measure the I.D." of the turbo outlet if stock, and not waste money on anything larger than that. For instance, you can expand the "choke point" in a pipe expander on the steel hotside piping. A competent muffler shop can do this for you. Are you able to tune the car to run 20psi boost or just running an adjustable wga and adjusting it for that boost? I have not followed any project log if you've one, that's why I ask. Money could be spent elsewhere before ever needing to upgrade the charge piping.

I like the thought of expanding the bottle neck, maybe using a tail pipe expander? It would definitely save me some money there. The upper and lower hard pipes I do want to replace as I can feel the rubber getting pretty flimsy.

Those pipes are fairly spendy for a few rubber elbows and some bends. I just found out my school has a student machine shop I can use if I make up something along the lines of "oh its for my senior thesis" or something lol so I might just cut some up there and see if I can't buy a spray on teflon coating or something.

The turbo is a BWS from Ravenworks, now out of business and will be going on a new motor with higher compression and a custom tune along with the 3 bar map/tip rescale for higher boost levels.

Yup. The tailpipe expander is what I was referring to. The bws turbo probably has had the compressor outlet opened up, I would measure it and expand the bottleneck to match if it is indeed smaller. if it were me, and I was in fact going to change the soft pipes, I would do it myself for much cheaper than what is available out there to purchase pre-made.

Does anyone have stock pipes they want to get rid of? Both are discontinued now from Mopar and one of mine is leaking. I'd be willing to to buy both hot and cold side pipes if they are in good shape just to get the right one.

make a new thread since what you're asking is off-topic here and unlikely to be seen by anyone

Technically it is on topic (intercooler piping) and likely to be seen by anyone searching for same as I did. Thanks for the advice though, I'll probably do that as well.

waitaminute - there is an INTERCOOLER???

Is this an aftermarket thing, or did they come stock on the 'big' turbo packages? ( I only have the turbo lite...)
