Traction Control

Hello,
I just purchased and love my PT GT Turbo Convertible. This car has Traction Control, can someone tell me what this does. There is a button on the dash to turn off the traction why would I want to turn it off and why.

Traction control uses the abs system, for the front wheels mainly. If it senses one front wheel spinning faster than the other, it applies brake to the spinning wheel so it transfers power to the opposite, non spinning wheel. Usually the non spinning wheel is the one that has a good grip. So it will help pull the car out of whatever slippery condition you have. Umm, depending on how you like to drive, would determine on if and when you turn off the traction control. In some situations, I feel,(don't know if I do), I have better traction in some types of snow with it off. Also, if you are at the drag strip, the traction control can sometimes keep you from accelerating quickly. It's sometimes quicker to accelerate by spinning a tire than apply the brakes to it. That button is what I call the tread removal button.

Thank You so much for the information. Since I live in Florida and don't do much drag racing I guess I'll just leave the tracton control on. I'm so glad I now know what it does.
