I am an expert on axles.. On my saturn I changed both front ones every 6-8 months (Because it was realy low)

On my PT I have changed the front axles 4 times.. One time I had my PT aired out most of the way and was turning right.. I pushed on the gas and pop the axel blew up in many many pieces... ball bearings all over the place..

Just because you see grease doesnt mean your axle is bad.. all that means is the oil is leaking out from the boot.. If you can catch it fast you can just replace the boot..

If you hear a poping noise when you turn your wheel then it is most likely gone bad.. they sell a kit if you were to do it yourself or you can take your axles out and have them re-built.. thats all mechanics will do.. I would def not pay the dealer for new ones.. If you have not lowered your car I would have them do it under warentee ..

I know where I'm going next trip to town. I might have the same problem as Ian. Will go back under the car again to check. Thanks for the additional info.

I emailed the drive shaft shop to see if there is a chance of them making stronger axles for the PT's. They have them for the srt4 and many othres so hopefully it will be promising. Like me most people will be needing stronger axles soon enough.
