drive it like you hate it !! lol

plain and simple, I can red line my stick in all gears, the auto's won't let the driver have that option...drive it like you hate it is a great anlogy.

...whoa, whoa, whoa!!!...my 5-speed has 1st gear boost. My boost gauge is at 5 lbs. at 2000 rpm and at 12-13 lbs. at redline. I race several of my vehicles and usually don't let off the gas when shifting. On the PT turbo I do, the rpm's only drop slightly with the close ratios and the boost only drops back to around 7-8 lbs. between gears...and goes right back to 12-13 lbs. before each shift. Once you get 3rd gear it's spooled and stays up all the way to 5th gear which is at about 110mph...mine cuts off at 128mph. My dealer is kinda different..he drives a Viper, we were curious and he brought an auto-stick turbo off the lot and we lined 'em up and give 'em a go for nearly 1/2 mile. He ran the first time with it shifting itself...they were even for about 10 feet and the 5-speed steadily pulled away till we let off, the 5-speed was about 150 feet ahead. The second run he shifted with the autostick, same results but he lost an additional 50 more feet than when he let it shift itself. Never let the seat of your pants fool you...find one and give it a try...they want to know what they got as much as you do.

Hey folks, my 5 speed turbo is a demon. I agree it doesn't feel like the turbo kicks in when in first but I am in first for such a short time and when I hit second the car is flying. The autostick is nice but if you meet me at the lights you will be seeing my rear plates FLUBYU

Earringboy, I concur that leaving the AutoStick in D is the best answer for getting away quickly. The AutoStick is most useful on winding roads to give the drive better control. Straight aways are best to let the computer drive it. Just remember to preload the torque converter before you go.

This issue reminds me of the "Trans-am, Camaro Issue" which one is better???
I have not driven a 5-speed PT Turbo. All I can say is for the automatic. Check my "PT Turbo Strip Performance" Post in the PT Turbo forum. I tested the car in "D" mode and "Auto Stick" mode and I had to retract on my statement that the "Manual mode doesnt work for drag". My passes in "D" mode were of 15.75 at 85.4 MPH My passes in "Auto Stick" mode were 15.37 at 94.5 MPH There is a marked difference in the two and the reason is "Overdrive" In "D" mode the car shifted to fourth when the tach read 4000 RPM and I was still in the 1/4 mile run. In "auto Stick" mode all the shifts where done at redline. You dont even have to worry about shifting; the computer will do it for you in all first three gears. All this tests were done with the car Bone Stock. The only way we can put this issue to rest is by taking a 5-Speed car to the track and race it Bone Stock and compare the numbers. My two cents. I for one am not a pro. Far from it. But I can tell you one thing, the Cruiser in Auto Stick is much faster then in normal "D". I don't know how much faster but it is! If you have one try it. You can really tell the difference. The baby goes!!

I'm afraid if I start messing with the autostick I'll regret not getting a 5speed. Never owned an automatic before, but with a kid in a booster, it's time to trade some fun for safety.
