Turbo "dump"??

Maybe this has been brought up before or maybe I read the answer but didnt get it, but....

When we floor our Cruiser, and it shifts, you can hear the car make like a loud BLAPT sound. Didnt really notice it before the Mopar exhaust, but it was probably there the whole time. the performance drops like a rock when that happens until the next gear catches. Is this just a normal turbo issue or is there something that I can do about it. I have read about the plug gapping (our Cruiser doesnt always start on the first try) and wonder if this has anything to do with it. Hmmmm...........[:I]

Its goes away when you install Stage1.

the noise that you hear is muffled by the stock muffler. changing that out will cause this noise to become more noticible. the cause of the noise is the computer interrupting the throttle so that the transmission is less likely to be damaged by a bonzai full throttle high hp shift. the noise itself is the pressure from the turbo charger being bypassed from the intake tract to the exhaust. that is the burp that you hear. if you install an aftermarket blow off valve or the mopar "blow off valve" (really just a diverter plate of the pressure to the atmosphere) then the noise will be heard as a whoosh or a sneeze.
quite a number of forum members have installed either the mopar plate or an aftermarket valve. your choice if that is what you want.
am doing the mopar plate next week.

Rob GT is right on. With the stock PCM when the transmission shifts the PCM pulls timing and fuel so that the trans shift is softer. Stage 1 is not programed to do that. Thats one of the ways that stage 1 produces "Firmer Shifts" in the auto transmission. If you go to stage 1 you will not hear the "Burp" betwen shifts, ahd the shifts WILL be improved.....
