Default 2003, hesitation, missing, between 1800rpm and 2400 rpm

Very strange and specific problem, it was repeatable with the correct circumstances. If I was to give anywhere less than 100% throttle, between exactly 1800 and about 3000 rpm there was just a complete loss of power, the car would jerk violently. I had to call over a second person to come in and give an opinion. Strangely, at exactly full throttle, there was no issue. So the car was completely undriveable. No DTCs, and the live stream data seemed completely usual. I initially though it was a camshaft position sensor or something of the like.
I swapped out my stage 1 computer and re-installed the stock computer and immediately all the problems went away. I guess my computer just failed, suddenly, and exhibited a very strange problem !

and here's a video of the symptoms.

Before I read the last sentence, where the problem went away with the installation of the stock ecu, I was thinking it sounds like a defective coil pack. I have heard of a few instances where they don't generate a code and the car has virtually identical behavior.

Well, if it was me, before I wrote off that ecu I would experiment by swapping the coil and trying it again. These cars don't like certain aftermarket coils, so I would try a stock one.

Possible something with closed loop operation, but open loop still ran fine. Did it run fine before it warmed up before, it would enter closed loop?

Who knows. Since I removed my CAT, I have the two sensors getting a code, however there should be no problems with this circumstance as it was working fine initially for a month since I removed the cat. And, the stage 1 computer worked fine for a year since I bought it used.

With all my automotive experience I've never seen a truely faulty ignition coil except for one on a cavalier that would fail after the engine was washed and water got onto it, until it dried for a few hours.

I did have an intermittent misfire one time and it was solved by replacing a coil control wire from the wiring harness.

That's interesting because it was my first thought when reading Mykee's post. Might be worth a look.

no, that's complete nonsense. my coil is OEM, it's new. the problem here is solved and determined as a defective computer. that's all.

So, what is your next step? Buy another Stage 1? What will you do with the junk computer?
