Default Burn Smell after pushing on gas

Hi, just few minutes ago arriving to home i dunno why i decided to get the GT inside the garage in reverse, there is a bump/lump covered with grass on the way i'd never noticed it untill tonite, i needed to apply some serious push on the gas to bypass it but when i was getting ready to shutdown the engine, i notice a somewhat strong smell like plastic burning and some smoke comming from the hood, i did open the hood but no more smoke i did start to check where the oddor came from and it appears to emane from the area just in front of driver seat near to a big black plastic box above the battery (sorry i dunno much about car parts) what did i blow? [:I]

Welcome, LoboMXGT, I could see some belt slipage or tire burn but I'm at loss as to what this could be.

Good luck

John

The black box behind the battery (if you're looking from the front of the car) is the airbox. The area between that and the driver's seat includes the pipe that goes from the airbox to the turbocharger.

If I was you I'd get underneath the car and look with a good flashlight, for anything you might have dragged, like a plastic milk jug stuck to your turbo up pipe - or worse, if you ruptured your exhaust or up pipe on the "lump" you had to accelerate to get by.

If everything looks good from underneath, remove the black box top and check for debris.

Did your wheels spin while you were trying to get unstuck? That could produce a small amount of "smoke" and a smell.

Thanks 2 all for your interest...

Now that i remember this is the 2nd time of that strange odder on my GT.

http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...?TOPIC_ID=5347

But never tough it was related cuzz that time some1 mentioned about the clutch recall on '03 MT GTs, after a month or so i felt into a
hole in the street and there were enough damage to be towed to the dealer: the 2 right side tires were literally slashed, the rims cracked and some suspension parts, so i mentioned to the technician about the incident with the clutch and the recall on it, he checked the build date and confirmed that my GT was on the range and they would remplace it, so when i picked up the GT, i asked again about the clutch and they said they remplaced it then driving to home i noticed a real diference on the clutch.

Backing to the last nite event, the smell was gone at the next morning nothing unusual on the GT perfomance, but after reading the Jeff's post, i just checked the exhaust (need to get a good flashlight for checking the motor area) it seems to be fine, the lump wasn't that big to reach it, the only noticiable thing was a black stain spot that runs along from inside to the end of the pipe but doesn't cover all just the bottom part. that's normal?

El Lobo

That black strip could be a number is things. Was there any oil or anything on the bottom of the engine? Have you kept an eye on your fluid levels? If these are okay, I would suspect that you just picked up something that burned off. If it happens again I would investigate further. The infamous "intermittent problem" is the hardest to track down unfortunately.
