Default California Speedway August 21st Results

Setup: 04 GT 5-Speed Manual, my ricer body kit, seats have NOT been removed, spare and jacks are still in, 1/2 tank of 91 Octane, my daily driver crap.

Modifications: V.A.K., Mopar 2.5" dual exhaust, SSR Competions 17x7.5 with Michelin Pilot XGZ4., and Mopar Short Shifter.

Driver: Can't launch from a dig, shifts like your granny.

1st Run (with Mike-in-Orange)

R/T: 0.604 (Fontana now uses 0 as perfect R/T)
60': 2.503 - 1500 RPM Launch
330: 6.816
1/8: 10.334
Mph: 69.37
1000: 13.277
1/4: 15.750
Mph: 91.09 - My car has this wierd thing about high trap speeds.

Mike won this race 14.978@90.33. I was behind Mike's rear bumper about a good PT's length due to my ugly launch. I basically followed him that distance all the way to the line. I was hoping that I could real him in with my 1mpg trap speed.

2nd Run (with Mike-in-Orange)
R/T: -0.016 (Soooooooooo close to perfect)
60': 2.447- 3000 RPM Launch , ouch wheel hop.
330: 6.731
1/8: 10.240
Mph: 70.86
1000: 13.209
1/4: 15.693
Mph: 90.78

Mike beat me again at 15.048@89.83. This time launch was a bit better, and I basically following Mike's rear bumper all the way to the line.

3rd Run (with itsawolf)
R/T: -0.065 (Soooooooooo close to perfect again!)
60': 2.460- 2500 RPM Launch
330: 6.779
1/8: 10.276
Mph: 71.47
1000: 13.201
1/4: 15.654
Mph: 91.81

I beat itsawolf (03 auto, no rear seats, 1/4 tank of gas) by purely reaction time .1526 of a second. Itsawolf ran at 15.567@86.37 (technically beat me on the 1/4mile). This race was basically a see-saw race. itsawolf got a jump on my car on the line, I was playing catch up when I hit 2nd gear and passed itsawolf. I was not mentally aware of what the hell I was doing and granny shifted to 3rd and itsawolf came to the side of my car and his antenna ball was waving back and forth telling me to shift to 3rd faster. I basically started to pull away on 3rd all the way to the 1/4 mile line. Technically, I lost the race by -0.061 of a reaction time (I red lighted, but not by much). Was very interesting to see the lead change 3 times down the track. Of course, being a good sport, I'm carrying roughly 200lbs. more than itsawolf. Itsawolf was a great sport, was very exciting how close that race was. We almost had the best race of the night, but some other people beat us to it.

4th Run (with E36 BMW M3)
R/T: .239 (Fontana started those lights WAY too fast, I didn't get to rev)
60': 2.629 - Launch at Idle speed 700RPMs
330: 6.946
1/8: 10.426
Mph: 71.68
1000: 13.350
1/4: 15.797
Mph: 92.15

E36 BMW M3 Time
R/T: .127
60': 2.308
330: 6.109
1/8: 9.286
Mph: 78.01
1000: 12.004
1/4: 14.312
Mph: 97.43

Arghhh, was getting late and they were starting those trees fast. Not like it matter much, I got killed by a M3. Wasn't too bad since my trap speed made it look like the bimmer walked me, rather than getting blown out of the water .

*Note California Speedway is: Start/Finish: 1127/1200 feet.
If you people like to play with ET adjustments to see level, here is a link:

http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/altitude.html

Overall, I was satisfied with my trap speeds, but my launching still needs another 0.2 seconds of work, but I'm getting there and speed shift a little faster.

First off, I must say that watching PTGT_Boy and itsawolf racing side by side was great fun! I had a good viewpoint at the fence for the whole thing, and it was one of the best races of the night! Well done boys!

I had a very consistent night and had no traction problems like last month, which just plain sucked. The only changes I made were the addition of 8.5mm Magnecor ignition wires and regapping my factory plugs to .042 from their factory .050 settings.

-------------Run 1--------Run 2--------Run 3--------Run4

R/T---------.416----------.208-----------.262---------.232
60' --------2.235---------2.262----------2.222-------2.230
330--------6.210---------6.237----------6.190-------6.176
1/8--------9.555---------9.591----------9.526--------9.493
MPH-------73.00---------72.46----------73.34-------73.31
1000'-----12.493--------12.544--------12.443------12.405
1/4-------14.978--------15.048--------14.903-------14.871
MPH-------90.33---------89.83----------91.28-------91.14

Race Notes: I backed off on the revs at launch last night, except for run 4 where I pulled 'em up to about 1500rpm. Runs 3&4 were done with front tire pressure at 38psi, rears at 44psi. First two were at 34psi all around. Run 3 was against a BMW M3 (E36 body - not the new ones) and I stayed with him through 330' then he pulled away, running a 14.1 to my 14.9. The last run was against itsawolf and since he's a demon on the lights I knew I had to go for it. Uh, I went for it a little to aggressively and got my first ever red light. But I also got my best ever time, beating my previous by 0.002 of a second and 0.60mph.

Damn good time, and looking forward to next month!

Those of us who usually attend these events are pretty well scattered around SoCal - Orange, Pasadena, Reseda, San Diego, Covina, La Canada, Yorba Linda. The racetrack is in Fontana, basically next to Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga. I don't know off hand of any accomodations nearby, Mike, but since Ontario International Airport is only a few minutes away you should be able to find something on Expedia.com

Geez, there's a lot of Mike's around here. Reminds me of when I was a kid and there were 5 Mikes in the neighborhood. I think our mom's took turns yelling "Mike! Dinner!" We'd all just head on home from where ever/whatever we were playing we when heard the call.

It's defintely a good fun even that basically last from 12pm till 10:30pm. You get time to chat all about performance and forum PT gossip. The day really passes pretty fast and you get roughly 4 runs on a good day, 2 on a crowded day.

For me it's a continual learning curve on the track, launching is getting better and shifting faster each run till I can get the 1/4 mile to 14.9sec (If Gary C can do it stock, I better be able to do it!). However, I found the wheel hop limit, and I will have to get new motor mounts (possible new suspension) to stop wheel hops if I want to get into the 2.2 sec 60' w/o breaking motor mounts and axles.

Other fun stuff that goes on is gathering with other group of cars. This last meet, we gathered up with other SRT-4 owners from SRTforums.com. It was a blast to see the SRT-4 mods and seeing there new experiments for new products.

Hopefully this upcomming September 18, we will see alot more peeps out there.

I am going to put it on my calendar and see if I cant make it. I am retired so I should have no conflicts but I seem too!! This time I just got back from NYC but next time should be OK! I live in Riverside so track is real close. I just loved the Pomona Bklick Party and the strip; where I ran similar times in the provided stage 1 Cruisers! That was my first time and my reaction time was terrible!!
