Default DROVE THROUGH WATER AND...

I WAS DRIVING MY 03 GT TO WORK TODAY WHEN A SUDDEN DOWNPOUR CAUSED THE ROAD TO FLOOD. I TACKLED THE STREAM BEFORE THINKING TOO MUCH ABOUT IT AND IN THE MIDDLE MY CAR SKIPPED A BEAT AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. EVENTUALLY THE LIGHT WENT OFF, BUT THE BAD THING IS THAT THE ENGINE HAS A HIGH SQUEAL LIKE A SQUEAKING BELT. ANY IDEAS WHAT'S GOING ON? ANYTHING I NEED TO DO OR LOOK OUT FOR?
THANX

ok, seriously.... turn the caps lock off. then you should take it to your dealer and have them take a look. that is unless you have any big modifications to your car, you should be fine.

Given that the airbox sucks air from the left fender wheelwheel, you may have water logged that turbo of yours.

Your accessory drive belts don't like water, but should get quiet when they get dry.

He would have had to be in water up to the hood to fill his airbox to the point that it flood into the engine. It really isn't as easy as people think to get the engine to suck that much water in.

Just keep driving it till the belts dry out. Mine does it almost every time it rains. I need to check mine for the correct tension.

Plus, it's not like there is a direct hole from the wheel well to the box itself. It's ducted airflow through the well.
I'd say it's the belts.

okieGT did not mention how high the river was when he crossed it? It does not take much water to hydrolock the engine, but it is running so not much ,if any, water entered the engine. I would check to make sure water did not enter the trans as they have vents and the water will destroy it!

SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS! That's the way I write all my e-mails etc. As far as the water, it was just about up to the bottom of the door. None of the water came in the cabin.

As an update, the "check engine" light went off later and the squeaking has subsided. Thanx for all the feedback!

Damn i need to learn to search the topics b4 starting a new one. had to delete 1 about the squeak-chirping sound after an amphibian adventure with the GT []

Here in Guadalajara, Mexico the downpours are a normal-almost-daily evening event from may to october, you could imagine some streets seem to go from a normal/small rain drainage stream to a real river in few minutes, i try to not use the GT when is raining because that plus the bad/cheap paving which means instantaneous big holes in this season, but sometimes when is necesary to do it, i do follow the manual and avoid driving on streets where the water level is near/equal/higher to the mentioned on it, so i've never risked the GT on deep waters .

But there is this squeaking-chirping-spining sound after driving for a while or sometimes while driving under middle wheel level or less flooded roadway/streets, sometimes i could hear an almost whispering screetch sound when lowering the speed by releasing the gas pedal.

After a enough drying/evaporation time(12-24 hrs) no more squeaking-chirping, and since no engine light came on i will buy your wet belts diag [^].
