Default Cam bearing Caps

I read in an early post that some 01-03 Turbo's had a noise created by cam bearing caps. It was NOT a recall, but dealers were fixing the problem anyway. My question is this, I do not have any ticking noise right now (30,000 miles) but since my warrenty expires in 6,000 miles is this something I should be concerned with? I don't want my warrenty to end than have the problem occur. Thanks, Gary[:I]

I had the cam bearing problem fixed on my '03 turbo. I first noticed the ticking at about 4,000 miles. If you have not heard it by now, I would think that your pt doesn't have the the defective cam bearings. It's my understanding that this was a machining problem in the manufacturing process and not a design issue. Some of us just got a bad lot of bearings.

Thanks for your response, although my wife may disagree, she insists my bearings have been off for some time. I don't think she was referring to my car though.

Maybe those who have had the problem could post their Build date(MDH) and this could give us an idea of when the problem occurred, depending on the origin of the engine. Do they manufacture/assemble the turbo engine in more than 1 location?

I'm having this problem (which I'm calling the dealer about today). My MDH is in my signature (1/14/03). I've heard this 'ticking' sound for some time now, but I didn't realize they had a TSB (woohoo!!! another 8 hour round of "But the TSB exists!" with my dealer) out for it.
