P.S. Mike-in-orange, I don't know you, but DAMN, your PT is WICKED!!! I've been to your site and your PT is one of the hottest I've seen yet! And I followed your advice and used a clay bar on my PT. It looks better now than when I picked it up at the dealership!
Awww, shucks dude, thanks for the compliment. As for the clay bar, yep, nothing comes close for doing proper prep work before applying a nice coat of Gary's sealant.

Back to the EVO - 4.8 seconds to 60 mph and 13.4 in the 1/4. That's bone stock and spanks a well driven SRT-4 (5.3 to 60 & 13.9 in the 1/4), and a Stage 1 PT won't run with the SRT-4 unless the PT is equipped with a very well tuned boost controller. Having said all that....if the EVO driver couldn't drive, or wasn't really trying, we could still beat him. I'd hardly call it a kill though....sort of like saying you're as fast as a Ferrari 360 Modena - but you're both stuck in stop/go traffic. But hey, if you're racing at the track and the other guy screws up, then it goes down in the books as a win for you.

Hey I totally agree with you guys about a stock Evo whipping a stage 1 PT, but doesn't the v.a.k. upcharge pipe add close to 30 hp over stage 1? At least that's what I thought seeing the dyno tests. And the iridium plugs and wires should add on a couple of hp along with the air intake. Not much, but it counts. So I'm putting them close to each other in hp, but the PT should be producing the same or more torque that the stock Evo. Shouldn't it? Now if the Evo was upgraded to a stage 1 or 2 turbo, forget it. I'm I right, or am I still off?

Here's a few reasons why its difficult to win with a GT:

1. If your driving an Automatic GT, your pretty much got the drive train lost penalty. In a sense, your negating any advantage you have against the EVO's AWD powertrain. A manual GT will fare only slightly better on rolls, but still will be left behind.

2. GT's weight typically 50~100 lbs more. You have aerodynamics of a brick.

3. AWD > FWD on digs. On rolls FWD/RWD can get the jump on AWD. However, won't do you any good if your power to weight ratio is = or less than the Evo.

4. Best way to find out how bad you will get owned is go up to a neighbor (that knows how to drive)with an EVO and ask a race on a launch and a roll. It's a guarentee murder on the launches, and on rolls you can be the camera man filming.

5. You will gain some benefits with the VAK pipes, since it is a solid piece and helps on boost consistency. I have not dynoed my car with a stock upcharge pipe. I dynoed my car with a cat back exhaust and VAK pipes under heat soaked conditions and my car (5-Speed Manual-Not Stage 1) Dynoed 199.2 WHP and 246.1 lbs/ft. WTQ. A stock EVO should be around 220 WHP and 225 WTQ. On a launch, I'll get murdered, on a roll I'll still lose. MAYBE, if I get Stage 1 and put down 220 WHP and 260 WTQ I'll stay up, but that's only on a roll (chances are I probably still lose).

6. Moral of the story, buy a STI or EVO for most bang for your buck in compact sport cars.

Some thoughts on this Evo discussion.

Did you guys know the total range on the Evo is 150 miles?

The STI and Evo performance is mind boggling. For a Cruiser to keep up, that would take some very serious modification, more than most any of us have. I think the Neon guys could put a few bucks in and surprise these guys. But throw in corners, that's another story.

Some of the Cobra Mustang guys are getting smoked by these cars. The V8s should always win in a straight line. Unfortunately that's not the case anymore.

The STI and Evo are pretty awesome when you look at their numbers. But when you look at them, I think they are two of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. I think the front ends are hideous. Although that is not the end we will ever be familiar with.

BTW, if I'm going to buy a high performance car, there should only be a total of 4 doors if you are including the hood and trunk!

Had my share the other day...2 for the price of 1! We were all at an intersection, about 2 miles before I exit to the highway. A dude in a Civic and a VW (I think Passat) pull up next to each other. I was behind the VW. Apparantly, they were friends since I saw them talking to each other. I went around and I pulled up on the 3rd lane, to the right of the VW and looked at them. They saw me and looked at each other. I think we all knew what we wanted. As the light turned green, we all hit it, I had a bad start, so they both pulled ahead. It was cool, because I wasn't at WOT and I was about 1/2 car lengths away. They started pulling away, but I held back, making them think that I was stupid for even trying. When I was coming close to my exit, I hit it and passed them up. [}] That felt SOOOO GOOD!
