Default Latest encounters.....

Gang,

Ran into an mid 90s Eclipse with a giant pipe (don't they all have 'em). He kept up pretty well, but I had to pull a Tony Danza (showing him Who's the Boss).

Few minutes later a Honda Civic SI hatchback pulls up. You know the one that looks like a Honda mini-minivan. It' almost like they shrunk an Odessey a bit, chopped the sliding doors and called it the Civic Hatch.

This dude, laughs at me, downshifts and got passed hard. A few blocks later guess who's showing me the bird as I pull up to him.

I know it's tough getting pounded by a Cruiser, but really.....what a jerk.

Street racing is stupid and dangerous. One of these days your luck is going to run out. Friend of mine messed up the front end of his brand new Jetta racing a Civic. Yippee! He won $150. The bummer is he spun out on a curve after he beat the Civic and caused $3500 in damage. Due to the pcm download his insurance company knows he was speeding and they are really giving him a hard time. He's got a wife and four kids. Next time he might not be so lucky. Take it to the track where others can watch you kick ass or get your ass handed to you.

But think of how boring life would be if we quit doing everything that is stupid & dangerous!

Maybe I didn't make it clear on the SI race. He downshifted, stepped on it and I passed him in no time flat. Obviously dissapointed the the invincible VTEC isn't so invincible, he showed me his finger.

Street racing is a bad idea. I agree. I only go at it if it's: no traffic, wide lanes, room for stopping and for a very short period of time.

Why have a GT if you're not going to step on it once in a while?

Ahh, the almighty iVTEC, so when you get up to 9,000 RPM, the engine won't shut down on you, but maybe give you an extra horsepower, what a crock. By the time he's to 9,000, you're already in second gear getting ready to kick the clutch and toss it to third. Yes, street racing is dangerous, but so is driving to work. I will remind mean green and all the other older folks out there, that your generation is what started the muscle car era, and 90% of the muscle cars raced on the street. Cars were being made in the factory to be able to street race. Hurst shifters, big 4 barrels, and big displacement were all the rage back then, and why; not to get to work an extra second faster, but to shut down that SS sitting next to you at a light.

He was just showing that you were #1! Street racing is probably not the smartest thing to do, but in the heat of the moment we do not always think! The worst part is if you get that speed contest or exhibition of speed ticket. $$$$$$$$$$$ ticket and $$$$$$$$$ insurance! [:0] That will make you think twice!

The thing with street racing is you never know whether you beat the other guy or if he just decided road conditions weren't right. Maybe he saw a hazard you didn't see?

I've "hard accelerated" up to about 60 MPH against guys at the stop light and then let off the gas because I'd seen enough. Afterwards, at the next light I'll wave and smile. No hard feelings win or lose.

Ah, the words of youth. Lack of wisdom, lack of experience and not knowing the truths of life. The only cure is to, if possible, get older though getting older does not necessarily mean getting smarter. With street racing, as Jim Morrison would say,"The end is always near."
