Hi everyone,
I own a 2004 pt turbo and It's been great but, I've noticed a klunking coming from the lower driver-side part of the engine everytime I start and there is a lot of vibration and shuddering when actually driving the car now. I've installed Stage 1 and the amx intake and UCP and been beating the car fairly hard this past week-launching it and testing out the performance. I think it may be the motor mounts, but from what I gathered, there are only two...one on the top and one on the lower part of the engine on the passanger side...yet I'm feeling the klunking on the driver side. It is a distinct klunking noise everytime I start up and I can feel it through the floorpan. Any suggestions on causes? I'm looking into replacing the motor mounts with the Psi-Fi motorsports ones, but I'd like to be sure this is the case before I invest in them. Thanks for any input |

Check out the AMX intake. Even though the bracket goes from the hose clamp to the pcm bolt there is still room for it to clunk around. I had to modify mine to make it more secure so it wouldn't bounce around and clunk. Great intake but it used to drive me nuts.

I had a problem with motor mounts breaking. You may have broken one of the bolts on the upper or lower torque struts. This would cause a klunking sound. The engine pivits on an engine mount bolt that goes through the fender. See if you can move the top of the engine back and forth.

the motor mounts are made to reduce NVH noise vibration harshness.
they have giant holes in them. I used 3M windo-weld to fill in the holes and that worked pretty good. Once you get some good motor mounts it will help to eliminate the wheel hop from spinning off the line (which is usually the cause and effect of bad mounts)

thanks for the replies. I've decided to take off the intake and UCP and have the dealer check it out and find out for me what the problem is. From what I've been told, it may also be a transmission mount. As long as the dealer doesn't charge me, I'm gonna have them fix it and then soon replace the mounts with Psi-Fi motor mounts...just to have for less wheel hop and peace of mind! I'll keep people informed on what it is

ralphygee--You might also consider another brand of motor mounts. JLMmotorsports.com has a complete set of motor/tranny mounts for the PT. They are actually the factory mounts that have been filled with a special material. I have them on my PT. The downside is more vibrations and if you have a 5-speed, you'll need to use a few more RPM's to get going.

Alright...I've fixed the problem. Thanks for all the replies and help. Well, I originally had a few buddies put in the AMX intake and UCP. As I was tearing down the parts to get ready for the dealership, I noticed they did not have the grommets put in the bracket holding the airbox down. Just on a notion, I reinstalled everything back in and tightened everything down with rubber mounts put back in the airbox bracket underneath. Just as I figured, the virbation and knocking sound is GONE. I also wrapped some electrical tape around the UCP pipe where it touches the battery bracket below and made sure everything was tightened down tight. Runs like a charm now...I guess thats what I get for not doing it myself. But I am still going to look into getting those mounts...the wheel hop is crazy[8)]. I'm probably going to get the full replacements from Psi-Fi...though I have heard the JLM ones are good, but I want to replace the mounts fully instead of inserts.

May want to check with KSquared11. I think he said stealer doesn't like non-OEM mounts installed. At least keep your OEM mounts just in case[:I]
