Default Turbo Life

Can any of our veteran gear heads tell me what the life span is on our turbo? I'm sinking tons of $$$$ in my car, and need to know how long my turbo will last. [:I]

it all depends how much you use it, if you use good oil, and proper cooling after hot runs. Without a doubt if taken care of you can expect 150K out of it.

hey if it goes you could always put a BIGGER one on [8)]

I've seen plenty of guys online who have been running Dodge Omni GLH Turbos since the mid '80s, or late '80s Chryslers & Dodges, and have close to 200,000 miles on them. Chrysler does their turbos right - they are properly cooled which is why many argue that you don't really need a cool down period for them. Just to be on the safe side I make it a point to enter my neighborhood from the opposite end and drive the three blocks or so to my house at around 15mph. I figure that ought to take care of any cool down I might need. I'll also cruise slowly around parking lots looking for a parking spot (or just showing off the car[8D]), which nets the same cooling result.

I had a 88 Mirage Turbo for 9 yrs, all I did was used dino oil and it ran fine for over 100,000+ miles. The main thing is to let it cool down after a hard run and don't push it hard on startup.

Get over it!

A brand new replacement turbo can be had for $500. A new better than stock for around $800.

Worry about more important things like blowing out your oil rings , rod bearings, etc with too much boost. An overhaul can be major bucks, and it is NOT a do it yourself job.
