Default Missfire & backfires

I have a 2003 GT (auto) with 43K miles. Over the past 4-5 months I have noticed a decrease in power while going up hills. This week when I stepped on the gas (not hard) it chugges, missfires and backfires up to the new speed and runs fine when I reach the speed I was looking for. Seems to be wores at speeds >35 MPH. I remember a TSP for like problems > then 5000 RPM. All my problems happen in the 2250 to 3500 RPM range.

Any thoughts???

Thanks

Red

This is not the sort of problem that the TSB covers, but you need to get it fixed ASAP!!

My first guess would be to look @ plug wires (and plugs?). Had an identical problem w/ my '98 neon R/T---4 times!! Each time, the problem was fixed w/ new wires. The wife's Town & Country also has had the exact same problem--twice!! Perhaps this is a Chrysler-recurrent issue, but your problem sounds exactly the same as what I've experienced (not w/ the cruiser yet, though).

Change the plugs and plug wires, miss will be gone,
power will return.

Yes, you have to get in there and inspect the plugs. Make sure all vacuum lines are connected and in good shape. What you are describing does not sound like the high rpm miss that some of us have been fighting.

I had the same problem at 35K. Turned out that the plugs had blown the seal between the ceramic core and the housing on all four plugs.

New plugs solved the problem. If you are in there...chang out the wires for some high temp 8mm solid coil wires(preventative for a common problem).

Since good old (and cheap) copper core Champion plugs are arguably the best that you can do.... change them at 25k and avoid having to write notes like this one.[8)]

My problem was the plug wires.
