Default If I can only find 89 Octane......?

Gang,

Often times I find myself in rural areas where 89 is the highest octane available. Should I use an octane booster if I can't get 91+? Which octane booster do you recommend. I'm especially concerned with the Stage 1 upgrade.

Thanks.

Haven't had trouble finding 91 or 93 octane but in the old days Moroso octane booster was the most popular in Texas. Of course then we were trying to get up into the 100 to 104 range.

Your GT will run on 89 octane, it just won't run the way it was intended. My wife mistakenly filled up with 87 one day and the car was a dog but it ran and nothing was harmed. Just don't fill 'er up all the way, and at first chance, top it of with 91 or 93.

There's a knock sensor that retards ignition and will prevent harm.

I have to be honest, I can't tell when wife has slipped in 87 octane exept that it is not as quick. On the open road it does not knock or really have that much less seat of the pants performance! We only put in regular once in a while so the octane in the tank is usually no lower than 89! Gas mileage is really the same no matter if I put in 87 89 or 91 (HIghest in Ca)![8)]

I agree, 89 Octane will be fine on a GT. It will not be as responsive as having a higher octane level. Since you have a GT with Stage 1, you're supposed to only use 91 or better. The next time you fuel up, bring a gas can with you and fill it as well. Leave it at home, so the next time you're low and down have enough fuel, get it from the can so you can travel the extra distance to a gas station that does carry 91.
