Default More PT vs WRX

I decided to out on a limb and start a new thread. I didn't want to be at the bottom of 5 pages.
IMHO it all comes down to $$$. Which is to say how much did you spend on your ride.
I went to Kelley Blue Book and priced both 04 and 05 PT's and WRX's. This is what I came up with:

04 PT w/$5k rebate - $21k. WRX - $26.6k. I couldn't find anything about rebates on the WRX.

05 PT - $23.5k. WRX $26.9k

Now I did the PT GT vs the WRX w/premium pkg. Hopefully I am comparing apples to apples whe it come to price. But There is ~$3k difference in price. So lets be conservitave here and say there is a $2.5k difference.
The point I am trying to make is if I bought a new PT/GT (which I did) I have ~$2.5k to to spend on mods. Once we (PT guys and WRX guys)have spent the same amount of money. Then the playing field is as equal as possible.
Dare I say this: that a GT with $2.5k in speed mods vs a stock WRX. that the GT would have a very good chance of winning.

One addition to the my post. I failed to mention a couple of other factors. When you take into consideration the Whhen it comes to the cool/utility/fun/HP/disposition of owner factor the PT wether turbo or NA, the PT wins no matter what! Am I biased or what! Plus put some ghost flames on the side, how cool is that. Could you imagine a WRX with flames[:0]

You don't have to pay full price for a WRX, I'm quite sure you can get one around the 23-24k area fairly easy by now (especially for an 04 model). The STI's command more of a premium and a bit harder to bargain down (for obvious reasons).

Taking the price comparison approach to cars gives some sense of measure of a car, but it really doesn't mean much. Stock performance is probably the only indicator that is worth arguing over, but everyone is subjected to different environments and driving skills, it becomes blurry.

Anyone can spend money to modify a car, but imo, the car loses its original essence when you start modfying. Everything starts becoming blurry when a modfied car is compared to another modfied/stock car. In a sense, it's almost pointless to say car A is better than car B because either both is modified or 1 is modified. Imo a modified car that looks like a paticular car doesn't mean it is that car (stock).

Really, people need to stop arguing which car is faster. If you want to really find out who is faster, get find some friends willing to race down the track/deserted location or make a trip to the track.

First off PTGT_Boy. Nice ride, that's the first ground effects package that I've actually liked or would consider buying. Espicially the rockers on the side.
Anyway, my post wasn't meant as an argument, but a discussion and a different (my way) of looking at this topic. [8D] Obviously, most of us are biased in this board, that's why we are here.
I'm not saying that GT's are faster. But when it comes to fun/cool per buck, the PT is hard to beat. [^] Plus the surprise factor and the looks on the faces of the rice grinders in my rear view mirror is priceless. Hopefully I will get the chance to see the look on the face of a WRX driver when I look through the passenger side front window, if you know what I mean.

PTSleeper, I went on and said the exact same thing to them, their response? "we should modify a vesba to be faster than a PT Cruiser." They are all just a bunch of idiots, it's not even worth trying to converse with them.

Thats why I said in the other thread that determining factor is who got to the finish line first. You cant put ANY 2 cars at the same equality. Some use the money excuse to try to make it equal some use the hp, but it doesnt work like that. Run what you brung. [8)]Sometimes, the quickest car isnt always the fastest.

The real problem is that so many people are into bench racing and NOT putting things to the real test - the track. If 10 magazines all say CAR A is faster than CAR B then CAR A Forum Members are going to get seriously ticked off when an owner of CAR B comes along and says it beat a CAR A on the street or track. "no freakin' way dude!" they'll all say, "look at what all the magazines say! We got X HP, you got X-10 HP, your stupid CAR B couldn't beat our way very super cool CAR A if you shot it out of a cannon oh yeah and by the way you suck!"

And the fact of the matter will remain that on that given day, against that given car with that given driver, your CAR B did, in fact, beat CAR A to the finish line. (I still don't think I should be able to outrun a Mustang GT but I've done it at the track a couple of times[:I])

Remember a few years ago when the San Diego Chargers finished the regular season with a won/loss record of 1-15? How would you like to be the ONLY team that lost to them that year.

"Hey, San Diego, you guys suck!"
"Oh yeah, we beat you, didn't we!?!?!?"

Sorry to threadjack MIO but a few years ago Dallas was 1-15. Their only win was against the Redskins. I live in a house full of fans of those SOB's. So i can relate to that. Damn do they OWN us or what... [xx(]

Another point to be tacked onto the arguement would be the amount of cars sold. Im not sure, but I could probably guess the PT has outsold the WRX by a ton. They can say all they want about how it may be ugly, but im pretty sure they're in the minority on that.

You make a good and valid point. When I was car-shopping in late fall of 2002 my final choice was between a Subaru WRX 227-HP Turbo Sport Wagon and a PT Cruiser GT. I did extensive research on both vehicles and, for the money spent, a fully-loaded GT was a better value and car IMHO. [|)] It was an easy choice for me and the PT-GT hauls more stuff and likes us tall (6'-3") people. Just my two cents. [8]
