agree with redman [|)]
i also use my EGT to monitor the temp but mine will idle at about 800deg. probe is located 1" away from turbo outlet in DP.
Shut down at 800-850 for me
pop hood whenever i can to exhaust the heat, want to add a hood scoop.
btw not factory turbo i have the Hahn mitsu unit

Agree with redman. I ALWAYS let idle for 2-3 minutes, pop the hood and leave it open in garage. I'm DC engineers calculated degree of heat buildup/"heatsoak" in engine compartment; but, it seeems very hot to me. In the early days, I had a Volvo turbodiesel that cooked at 255,000 miles because of bearing failure(I know, what's my point)? Just call me cautious and very happy with this car.

Or if your not happy with the so called "alarm" system on your PT, then upgrade it to something like a Viper 791. It includes a turbo timer, shock sensors, hood switch, excellent remote starter, etc.
I went that route after I got broken into. An expensive route tho...
