Default What to do first

I'm planning on ordering a 05 GT in the next week or so. I have to order it cause I want a manual transmission and red and black two tone. Im wondering what is the first thing you guys recommend as a perfomance upgrade once I get things broken in.

Thanks

A cheap and quick mod would be to remove the silencers in the stock airbox. Of course, this would make the car louder on acceleration. You can either replace the stock air filter with a K&N air filter for a better airflow, otherwise, you can go with an open air system, such as K&N FIPK, Airaid, BTG, etc.

The next steps people do are exhausts and, once it becomes available (if not already), Stage 1 for your '05 GT.

Better performance tires should be next, since the increased HP will not help too much with the stock tires.

But before I carry on even further, I believe there's been a discussion like this before. I'll see if I can find it so I can post the link, otherwise, you may be able to find it or someone else will probably post the URL as well.

Drop in a K&N performance air filter first thing, and, go from there! [8)] Good luck.

This may not be a performance mod, but hood struts are a must. For under $100 you can save your hood from damage caused by a careless service tech or friend who closes the hood without removing the undersized stock support rod.

I like Blane's hood struts.

Blane's Custom PT Cruiser Hood Lifts are the very best IMHO. [|)] [^]

You know I really don't think about my Blane's struts, I just kind of take them for granted, but every time I open or close the hood I don't have to worry about me or some dealer tech bending my hood as so often happens. I really like them.

As for PERFORMANCE mods, I guess Stage 1 is best "bang for buck".

IF you plan to drive it like you stole it, than I would suggest motor mounts (reduce wheelhop on launches mainly) first.

If you want the cheapest and fastest mod gain, than Stage 1. However, you have an 05 model and I'm not sure if Mopar has released Stage 1 for them (or if they ever will). If you like to take risks in life, see if an 04 Stage 1 works on an 05 model, but I advise against such an action.

Other mods just seem to be fluffing on the cake (it's more of a personal choice). Suspensions and tires you'll see a handling improvement more than accleration improvements.

I already have a strut kit on my 01, and Im taking it with me. If I invested the money and I can keep the part its coming over. So Radio, Sideskirts, LEDs Front grille, Interior lights, engine chrome stuff and hood struts, and rims are all coming with me. Once i place the deposit on the dealer desk Im disassembling the car and going back to stock as much as possible.

Don't forget the MOPAR shift kit I understand it really does make a big difference.
