I'll agree with that statement once PTGT_Boy is able to outrun me at the track....until then, I respectfully disagree.
In order for the comparison to be valid, both cars would have to be identical & YOU would have to drive them both to the best of your ability. It's my understanding that given the same engine, the stick will deliver more HP to the wheels. I'm pretty sure that a good driver can shift a stick as fast as a good driver can shift an unmodified auto & that a good driver can tell when to shift these family sedans better its computer can. But I could be wrong...I frequently am these days. One thing is sure though, a stick is a hell of a lot more fun through the twisties!

Well I went to the dealer I plan on buying the car from (not the one that tried selling me the autostick) They let me test drive the autostick on my own, no sales guy. Being the President of the local Cruiser club comes with benefits I guess.
Anyway I put it through its paces, hard downshifts, romping hard acccelleration. Sorry Im not a fan of it, no matter how much control you have its still an automatic.
We're going tomorrow to order our car, the main sales guy is telling me to just come in, I dont need $500 down to order. He knows how serious I am about buying and agian, being the Pres has benefits.
They tried dealer searching but no one seems to have two tone 5 Speeds.
I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

Just buy the car that looks and drives the best for you. If get a stick be sure to consider installing the after-market Mopar Short-Throw Shifter as I have heard if really improves the shifting of the GT's 5-speed Getrag manual transmission. Good luck.

IF YOU WANT THE STICK, GET THE STICK! YOU WONT BE HAPPY WITH AN AUTOMATIC IN THE PT. GUARANTEED! BESIDES, IT'S FASTER.

I'm perfectly happy with the auto in my PT and it isn't even an autostick! I liked the autostick in my 2000 V6 Dodge Stratus, and thought I'd miss that when I got the PT. Nah...no biggie. Besides, I've got a 5 speed in my "true" sports car.

But this isn't really about what you want, what I want, or what any of the rest of us want. It's about what Alini wants, and that's a 5 speed. If he/she has always had a stick and truly prefers a stick, then the autostick just ain't gonna cut it.
I can say this because I test drove both the stick and the automatic:

The stick is a good deal faster. You have 5 gears, not 4, and you can control the RPMs more easily with the 5-speed. The only reason I went with an A/S car is because I have to drive I-75 in the Detroit area to get to work every day, and I would be ready to shoot someone if I had to be constantly rowing the gears.

Also, since the 5-speed is more efficient at delivering power to the wheels, you WILL see better fuel economy (depending on driving habits) with it than you will with an automatic.

Buy what you want.Don't let some salesman talk you into something
else. You will regret it later.
