Our engine is a real PITA to work on. You would thing the cams would be only a few hours because they are right there, but it is more involved.
First off, the front of the engine is right up against the right side frame rail. So the the engine needs to unbolted and jacked up to gain access to the tensioner and all the other BS. Also our cams go through a hole in the rear timing belt cover. This means everything in the front of the engine must be removed to have access to the bolts nfor the rear cover. Then the rear cover must be removed to free up the cams.
I would suggest if taking this job on look into removing the top portion of the the rear timing cover so cam removal in the future is much easier. I would have done this but was on a very tight schedule when reinstalling my engine and could not play the way I wanted to.

Also for as good as our head flows, there is much more to be had with some good porting. There are some bottlenecks in the ports and there are some good people out there who know exactly where they are on our 2.4's. I have had my heads flow benched and they flow quite well after the work done to them. You can see some of the work on Bob's website.

I checked out the site and had some pretty good stuff there. I checked on the SRT today and the head was off and ready to be ported. I really should get some pics.......I look forward to posting the results.

Our GT engines are pretty reliable to 400-450 HP.
I'm not sure. I've read that the GT engines aren't built to handle anything above 300 HP, without new rods & pistons. I think it was Bob Stockum that stated it. Whatever the case, I figure if a person is willing to boost their HP above 300, changing the rods, pistons, & even beefing up the tranny would be included in their list.
The engine is reliable to 400-450. It is the axles and tranmission that are the problem. The PT has the exact same engine as the SRT-4, except the intake. The SRT-4 people have been getting 450 HP with just bolt ons. Now when they get over 500 HP they start having major problems.

To make big power what you need is a turbo upgrade. This will give the PT all the power you want without pulling the eingine.
Now before we start talking about turbo upgrades we need to talk about upgrading the transmission.

Its about 90% done now. Heads have been ported, valves have been oversized (), intake/exhaust has been ported. Now it just needs to get reassembled. Im thinking Wednesday or Thursday I should have some butt-dynos to report. If we can get in, we might have REAL dyno numbers on Saturday! Couple pics...

Got any flow numbers? Before and After?
Using a piggy-back controller to manage the volumetric efficiency changes?

I didnt realize those pictures arent working, Imagestation sucks. [:0]

Yes, we do have flow numbers. We flowed each cylinder with and without the intake manifold and throttle body on it. Also checked the exhaust side. I dont have any in front of me though. I have a map clamp coming to adjust some, but not a full EMS system. Rumor has it that AGP and AEM are making an EMS system that is coming out next year....Im thinking about that, but if needs be then I will buy either a Powerpack or go with a SAFC for now.

Its done! This car pulls harder than before! Raced a blue SRT last night with a wastegate and boost controller (16psi) and put about 5 cars on it just with this "stock" car! Dynos within the next few days

Congrats on your success... So - what were those flow #'s? I am curious how well the head flows stock, and what you were able to achieve with oversized valves and porting... My warranty will be up someday, and I would like to learn from others in the meantime.

I dont have any numbers in front of me, but the exhaust manifold was pretty restricted. In some areas we got an increase of 50cfm! Trying to find a dyno but everyone is closing up early for the holidays. Im hoping to get it done before Christmas!

If the manifold is the most restrictive, this is good news... I could adjust that without really tearing into the engine. Also increasing flow here will have negligible effect on volumetric efficiency, such that the OEM speed-density system wouldn't have issues. Sounds like almost free horsepower.

I look forward to your dyno results. I hope you had some before #'s and can revisit the same shop for consistency - even if you have to wait till next year.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I really enjoy hearing about your project.
